First through fourth graders, come dressed as your favorite saints, Friday, November 7, for 8:15 Mass. Be prepared to answer questions about your saints! The students will go to the cafeteria after Mass to talk about their saints. Afterward, students will change into their school uniforms.


Parents, please make sure your children’s clothing, shoes, back packs, lunch bags, etc., have their names written on them. If they end up in the Lost and Found box, they can be returned if properly labeled; otherwise, they will be donated to St. Cecilia’s Closet.

The OLPH Football 60 year anniversary “Outback Bowl” was a very special event. Over 400 people were in attendance to watch the OLPH football team play against Knox Catholic. Players from the OLPH inaugural 1948 team took part in a pinning ceremony, which included stories from the humorous to the emotional. The OLPH Rams finished second place in the ISC with an overall record of 13-3. Thank you to Hamilton Place Outback Steakhouse and the parents who made this event so terrific. Thank you to the OLPH coaches for their dedication!


OLPH School will be hosting Jim Williams, a highly effective speaker who uses personal stories to reach his audiences on Wednesday, November 5 at 6:30 pm in the OLPH School gym. Jim will speak on “Strengthening Families” which will give parents insight and suggestions on how to raise responsible, accountable, dependable children who are resilient and capable of handling disappointments. All OLPH Parish families and the Chattanooga Catholic Community are invited to attend this session. Childcare will be provided in the OLPH School cafeteria. Mr. Williams will also address the issue of “Bullying with Adolescents” with the OLPH School 6th and 7th grade classes on Thursday, November 6.


OLPH FOOD DRIVEPlease help the 3rd grade Brownie troupe gather food for the OLPH Church food pantry and Ladies of CharityThe food theme for November is “lunch items” – canned soup, tuna fish, peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti, canned fruit, etc. Boxes are located in the entryway of each school building. Different food themes will be announced each month. Also, a reminder that OLPH Church “Good Samaritan” food drive is the first Sunday of every month. Thank you for your support! OLPH Brownie Troop 14 is collecting old blankets and old towels for the Humane Society as a service project. Please bring in your old blankets and towels and place them in the collection box by the main entrance to the school building (near the archway). Collections will continue until November 14, 2008. Please help us keep our furry friends warm and dry this winter season.

PICTURE RETAKE DAY IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28. If you are not pleased with the photos you purchased from the September 18 “picture day”, your child/ren may have them retaken. The original photos need to be returned with your student; a new picture envelope must be completed-they are available in the school office. Those students having their picture retaken may wear an out of uniform top, and change into a uniform top after the picture is taken. Students who were absent on September 18 will have their picture taken. Soccer players will be given a separate picture envelope; they also need to bring their soccer uniforms with them for their pictures. Picture taking will begin promptly at 8:15 and will finish by 9:30.


Parent/teacher conferences will be held Thursday, October 30, 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm and Friday, October 31, 8:00 am to 11:30 am. We encourage all parents to attend a conference, and we suggest that your students accompany you.

Plans are underway for a Bowl Game and luncheon on Saturday, October 25th sponsored by Outback steakhouse. The luncheon and video presentation will be in the PLC beginning at Noon; the game is scheduled to begin at 1:30. There will be a mass photograph at halftime on the football field. Because of the wonderful response from last year, we are again holding parent/teacher conferences during one evening (October 30, 4:00 to 7:30) and one morning (October 31, 8:00 to 11:30). Parents will have an opportunity to sign up for a time slot at the Home and School meeting on October 22. Any parent who cannot make this meeting will have an opportunity to sign up via a form that will be sent home October 23. HOME AND SCHOOL MEETING is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the school gym. Mr. Perry Storey, principal at NDHS will be a guest speaker. Babysitting will be available in the cafeteria beginning at 5:45. Hot dogs, chips, drinks, and desserts will be provided for all children in the cafeteria.

OKTOBERFEST RAM RUN will be Saturday, October 25. The 5K starts at 9:30 am and the 1 mile at 10:30 am. This year the course will start and end at the Chattanooga Market. OKTOBERFEST is October 25 and 26 at the Chattanooga Market. Oktoberfest will kick off with the Ram Run on Saturday, October 25 and continue through Sunday, October 26. The weekend celebration includes live music, German food and handcrafted art from local vendors. The Chattanooga Market is located inside the First Tennessee Pavilion at 1826 Carter Street.

A Spanish Enrichment program is being offered to students in grades 4th through 8th beginning Friday, October 24. This program will be conducted by parent volunteers who are native speakers. The purpose of this enrichment program is to increase the vocabulary and comprehension, improve the pronunciation, and stimulate the conversation in Spanish. The first meeting on October 24th will be at 3:30 in the school library; parents are welcome to attend this introductory session. An information sheet was sent home with each student in those grades. Interested parents/students need to return the bottom half of the form to the school office. THE OLPH BOOSTER CLUB has a few Ram blankets and ball caps for sale. These would make great Christmas gifts! Samples of each are on display in the school office. Blankets are $20 each; ball caps are $10 each. Send your payment to the school office and the items will be sent home with your student.

7TH GRADE MATH HELP: Dawn Signiski has volunteered to help 7th graders with current and past pre-algebra topics. She will be available each Wednesday from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm in Mrs. Melton’s classroom. Students interested in participating should go to Mrs. Melton’s classroom after school on any Wednesday. Pick up will take place outside of the 7th/8th grade building (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hall) at 3:30. Students not picked up by 3:45 will be sent to Aftercare. Ms. Sumrell or Mrs. Hetzler will conduct Math Help on days that Mrs. Signiski is not available.
