TRANSITION DAYS at OLPH School are being scheduled for students and parents. On Wednesday, April 29th, parents of rising 1st graders will meet with the 1st grade teachers at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria in the Main School Building. On Monday, May 4th, rising 5th grade students will have a transition day (half-day) in St. Patrick's Hall during the school day. On Tuesday, May 5th, rising 5th grade parents will have their meeting with the 5th grade teachers in St. Patrick's Hall at 6:30 PM. Please make plans to attend the transition days - it will help prepare both students and parents for the upcoming school year and provide the opportunity for parents to meet the teachers and ask questions.

The 5th grade students and teachers want to thank the Home and School Association for providing the bus on their field trip to the Rave to watch the Disney film, "Earth" to celebrate Earth Day. Disney planted 57 trees in various locations throughout the world as a result of their participation in this project. The Home and School will also provide a bus to Lake Winnie at the end of the school year.

Save your aluminum cans for the 5th graders - they are collecting (rinsed, pleased!) cans in conjunction with Earth Day. The 5th grade students will gather the cans from each building on Thursdays until May 21st; boxes will be located in each school building. The money earned from recycling the cans will go to Doug Owen, OLPH seminarian. The Knights of Columbus will then donate a tree on behalf of the 5th grade class for their effort in this Earth Day fundraiser.

Grandparent's Day will be celebrated on Friday, May 8th starting with the celebration of the Mass at 8:15 AM followed by a continental breakfast and entertainment by the students in the school gym.

Grandparents and parents, feel like spoiling a terrific child? Give the gift that will last. OLPH Spring Book Fair will be held in the school library during the week of May 4-7, from 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, and 9:00 to Noon on Friday, May 8th.

The Annual OLPH Spring Art Show will be Friday, May 8, on Grandparent's Day. Students in all grades are eligible to enter. Art work must have been done this school year and must be framed. Students may enter 2 works of art. Clay pieces may also be entered. Art work should be submitted to Mrs. Meinert by Monday, May 4.

Booster Club Officer applications for the 2009-2010 school year are available in the school office or you can download the application from the OLPH School website at www.myolph.com. Applications must be turned in to the school office by Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Officers will be announced at the Booster Club meeting on Monday, May 11th. The last Home and School Association meeting for the year will be Wednesday, April 29th at 6:30. Pizza and drinks will be served, and childcare will be provided. There are many changes coming for the next year; please attend this important meeting. Also, there will be a parent survey, and your participation is needed and greatly appreciated.


The Home and School Association is sponsoring another Family Fun Bingo Night after the First Friday Mass and following the Knight’s fish fry in the PLC. Cards are only 50 cents each, and prizes will be given out to winners. Anyone wishing to donate prizes for this event should drop them off at the school office by Friday at 2:30. Toys, games, baked goods, etc. will be greatly appreciated, and PIP hours will be given. If you would like to volunteer to help, contact Colleen Teal at 605-6006. The last Bingo Night was a huge success. Come out and play!


Be sure to get your PIP hours before the end of the year. Many opportunities are coming up including Grandparents Day, book fair, art show, box tops, Teachers’ Appreciation Week (May 3-9), and Field Day. Contact Kathy Sumrell for more information. There is going to be an end-of-the-year Spanish Spring Festival/Market. Senora George needs items donated for this event. These items will be "sold" to the students for "money" they earn in class this 9 weeks. The OLPH CAG used uniform room, "St. Cecilia's Closet", has a few First Communion articles of clothing for sale. St. Cecilia's Closet is open during regular school office hours, 7:45 to 3:30, Monday through Friday. There are many gently used school uniforms for sale - stop in and check it out.

There are a few changes concerning the Children's Choir for the West Side Story production at NDHS. The choir will sing only on opening night which is Thursday, April 23 (for ticket information visit www.myndhs.com). They will sing before the play begins - at approximately 7:00. The songs will be famous Broadway tunes: "Tomorrow" from Annie, "DoReMi" from The Sound of Music, "Day by Day" from Godspell, and "Kids" from Bye, Bye Birdie. We are having two practices after Easter Break - Tuesday, April 21, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, in the music room; and, Wednesday, April 22, from 12:45 to 1:30 in the art room. Congratulations to several OLPH 7th grade students who recently participated in the Duke University Talent Identification Program. The students involved take the SAT or ACT as part of Duke's 7th Grade Talent Search. Based on their scores, six students qualified for "State Recognition" - Christopher Coles, Danika Dorris, Zach Grannan, Emma Han, Dean Magat, and Nolan Pawlowski. As we come to the end of the Lenten season, I wish to commend our students for the wonderful job they have done academically and spiritually. Last week we took our IOWA tests and prepared for the Living Stations among other things. We will have school on Holy Thursday and begin Easter Break on Good Friday, April 10th, and return on Tuesday, March 21st. Bishop Stika has given us an extra day for Easter holidays!
I wish everyone a Blessed Holiday and safe break. As an Easter gift, I am giving an out of uniform for the students on Wednesday, April 8.

SPRING PICTURES WILL BE TAKEN TUESDAY, APRIL 7, BEGINNING AT 8:15 AM. All students in grades Kindergarten through 7th will wear their OLPH School uniform. Group pictures of each homeroom will be taken; individual portraits will also be made, both need to be pre-paid with checks made out to Lifetouch. The 8th graders will wear "Sunday attire" underneath their graduation gowns. Each student was given an order form/envelope; extra forms are available in the school office. Spring sports pictures will also be taken - this includes, track, tennis and lacrosse. Please be sure your athlete/student brings his/her sports uniform to wear for the pictures. Athletes for these sports were given order forms/envelopes either by their coach or through their homeroom teacher; extra forms are available in the school office.

Notre Dame High School's West Side Story Youth Choir: John Lennon, Theater Director at NDHS, and Ann Meinert from OLPH are collaborating on a young people's choir to sing at intermission during the NDHS Spring production of West Side Story. The choir will sing a medley of songs from the play. If your child is interested in singing, please contact Mrs. Meinert. The play will be April 23, 24, and 25. The students would need to be there each night. This choir is open to grades 2 through 8. The practice schedule was given to students on Friday, April 3.

LIVING STATIONS-The OLPH School 8th grade class will present the "Living Stations" for OLPH School students on Thursday, April 9th, at 1:45 PM in the church. All parents and parishioners are invited to attend this annual presentation.

CHANGE FOR A CHANGE: Our school Lenten project is "change for a change." We are asking children to bring in their spare change to Religion Class. Each Religion room will have a jar to fill with change for "Food for the Poor." Our goal is to fill all the jars to their tops with change and prayers to help others. We will collect the money during Lent; please bring in your change by Holy Thursday, April 9. The virtues for March are "faith" and "trust". We trust that you will help us with this project and watch our faith grow. As Jesus told us, "This is my commandment: love one another as I love you." John 15:12
