SCHOOL INFORMATION: Thanksgiving reflections/thank you's, Bishop's Day, Hats on Day, Jed Mescon visit

· As we approach the Thanksgiving holidays, we automatically reflect on what we are thankful for. We, the staff at OLPH, have been blessed with a wonderful student body and parents. Thank you for all you do for your students, our staff, and our school. Have a wonderful holiday. --Jeri McInturff

· A heartfelt "Thank You" from the Barta family for all of the prayers and thoughts for Kim Barta and her Dad during their recent surgeries. Both patients are doing well and Doug, Kelsey and Kassidy ask that you continue to keep them in your prayers.

· Please note that Thanksgiving Break will be Wednesday, November 24 through Monday, November 29 ("Bishop's Day off"). School we re-open Tuesday, November 30.

· Hats on Day, a fundraiser for the Foundation for Children with Cancer, will be Wednesday, December 1. This event was founded in 1995 by students in St. Louis, Missouri, when their friend and classmate was diagnosed with cancer. Their idea was to have all students wear hats on a designated day as a sign of compassion and a way to raise understanding and awareness for their friend and other children who lose their hair during treatment. In addition to raising funds for the Foundation, we are honoring OLPH 6th grader Amanda Swartout. All students may wear a hat of their choice for any donation amount.

· The field trip to the High Museum in Atlanta to see the Salvador Dali exhibit was a great success. A special thanks to the Creative Arts Guild (CAG) for supplying the nice charter buses and to all of the parent and teacher chaperones who went along. A special thanks also to the Home and School Association who paid for a portion of the tickets. A wonderful time was had by all.

· In honor of National Read Across America Week, Channel 3 News anchor Jed Mescon gave a vibrant interactive reading of The True Story of the Three Little Pigs to students in grades kindergarten through second. This was Mr. Mescon's first visit to OLPH and he was so impressed by the students he offered to come back as a guest reader for Dr. Seuss Day!

· The Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga presented Furry Tails with a Twist to students in grades third through eighth. This 'hilarious romp through creative story telling' was produced by John Cecil, an OLPH graduate (1998). Thank you to the Creative Arts Guild for paying for this much enjoyed presentation.

If a child has chosen an ornament with a gift a parent does not wish to purchase, please send the ornament back to school to be rehung on the tree.
