· Student Recognition--Congratulations to Drew Ingle, 1st grader at OLPH School, for his First Place finish in the John Ross District Pinewood Derby race (Tiger Cub Division) on Saturday, March 19. There were many scouts from our district, including 16 Tiger Cubs. Good job, Drew!
· Student Recognition--Congratulations to Ian Agbannaoag, 1st grader at OLPH School, for his First Place finish in the Regional Nexstar Dance Competition. Ian participated in the competition with his dance troupe and as a solo performer. Good job, Ian!
· Alumni Student Recognition--Lara Stolpmann, an alumna of OLPH School, and currently a junior at Notre Dame High School, finished second in the "Chattanoogans for Life" Oratory Contest on February 15. Lara's speech was on adoption and its effects on both the birth and adoptive parents. Congratulations, Lara!

· Operation Rice Bowl--OLPH Eighth Grade F.O.C.U.S. and School Lenten Project--When the Israelites felt that they were out of options in the desert and pleaded to God for help, God answered their prayers. Your support of the Catholic Relief Services' Operation Rice Bowl also answers prayers--it provides options to workers in Senegal and throughout the world. Of the total money collected by our community, 75% will aid programs overseas and 25% will stay and help those in our Knoxville Diocese. Rice bowls due Wednesday, April 13.
· Paper Drive--There is a "paper drive" sponsored by the OLPH School Earth Savers Recycling Club through April 19. Please support the Recycling Club by bringing in newspapers, magazines, telephone books, and cardboard (please "break down" the cardboard). The paper is to be put in the big paper bin behind the school (not the green recycling cans). Thank you for helping us save the Earth!
· Earth Savers Recycling Club t-shirts order forms were sent home with each student. The Earth Savers t-shirts may be worn on days when students are scheduled to work in Nature's Place and on OLPH School "Spirit" days. The t-shirts are $10.00 apiece, and are available in youth and adult sizes. The cost of the t-shirt is $10.00; checks are made payable to OLPH School. The deadline to order the t-shirt is 8:30 A.M., Friday, April 1, 2011. Extra order forms are available in the school office.
· "That Blasted Test"--The Makers Club will be doing an extra Maker project on March 29th from 3:30 to 5:00 P.M. Since IOWA tests will be given during the week of March 28th, the regular Makers Club will not be meeting. Instead, Makers Club will host a special "THAT BLASTED TEST" day. Any student in grades 2-8 interested in taking a break with a chance to literally blow off a little steam will be able to join the Makers Club for some explosive fun. We will be combining the explosive power of cola and the minty nature of Mentos to see if we can be the first school to put a soda powered rocket bottle into orbit. There is a $5.00 fee to cover the cost of materials. We will meet Tuesday, March 29, after school in the gym, and see if we can have a real blast (off). The event will be wet and sticky, so rain or shine, bring a raincoat or poncho. To make sure there are enough Diet Cokes and Mentos candies, registration is a necessity. You can sign up on the Makers Club website at http://olphmakersclub.blogspot.com/. Registration is on the right side of the page. Registration will close Sunday, March 27. Students in grades K-1st are welcome to come and watch, but will not be able to launch their own rockets. There will be a $5.00 fee for these observers as well, but it will be waived if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

· OLPH School Committee is now accepting applications for 2011-2012 School committee openings. School Committee meets on a monthly basis and serves as an advisory board to the Pastor and Principal of OLPH School. This is an ideal way for working parents to become more involved in the school and fulfills PIP hour requirements. Membership is open to parents of OLPH students, alumni of OLPH School, parents of alumni, and members of OLPH Parish. Please prayerfully consider serving in this very important school ministry. · Home and School Association is accepting officer and committee chair nominations for the 2011-2012 school year. The Home and School Association is an integral part of our school and provides our teachers, students, classrooms, and school with so many things we could not afford if it weren't for this wonderful organization. · Sugar 'n Spice--Tickets are available to purchase!! The OLPH Sugar and Spice Brunch returns this spring on Saturday, April 2nd. Celebrate "The Joy of Being You!" For women and girls of all ages. It brings together our school and parish communities to promote virtue, fellowship, and fun. Guest speaker is Beth Matthews. There will be an auction/raffle, and other surprises. The event will be held in the OLPH School gym; tickets are $20. Proceeds benefit the Family Honor Program, Religious Education, and Ladies of Charity in our community. · St. Cecilia's Closet is in need of gently used OLPH School uniforms. This is a great time to clean out your kids closets and donate those uniforms that no longer fit. St. Cecilia's Closet is maintained by the Creative Arts Guild. There are also First Communion dresses and jackets for sale in the "Closet". All proceeds from the sales of the used uniforms benefits the arts at OLPH School, including arts-related field trips. The "Closet" is open Monday through Friday, from 7:45 to 3:45. Donations may be dropped off at the school office; a donation receipt can be given upon request.
· VIRTUS training--A training session will be held on Monday, April 18 in the PLC, from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. VIRTUS is a program for the protection of children and youth. The training is mandated by the Diocese of Knoxville, for all adults volunteering, chaperoning, or working with children. This includes faculty, staff, substitute teachers, coaches, classroom volunteers and boy/scout leaders. Registration is done online at www.virtus.org .
· Knights of Columbus Black and White Ball will be held on Saturday, April 9, at the Loose Cannon Gallery located at 1800 Rossville Avenue in Chattanooga, from 7:00 P.M. until 11:00 P.M. The Mailmen Band will provide entertainment. Cost is $30 per person. All proceeds will benefit tuition assistance for the Chattanooga Deanery Catholic Schools. · Notre Dame Alumni Soccer players will play Notre Dame Varsity Boys soccer team, Saturday, March 26, at 3:00, at NDHS. The game is free! There will be a meal with a per plate charge of $3 to $6. If it rains too much to eat outside, the meal will be in the Multi Purpose room in the new wing of NDHS. · Spring Sports practices, games, and matches have begun! OLPH School has boys and girls tennis teams (6th-8th), co-ed track team (5th-8th), and a co-ed golf team (6th-8th). Meets/matches are posted in the calendar section of the Friday Fanfare. GO RAMS!
· Intramural Basketball for grades 3rd and 4th --The remaining dates for the Intramural Basketball program are the following Saturday mornings: March 26, April 9, and April 16, beginning at 9:00 A.M. The routine is: 9:00 to 9:30, practice on your half of the court; 9:30 to 10:00, play the team on the other half of the court. The playing schedule is: March 26--9:00, Team A v. · OLPH Football Annual Awards Dinner will be Saturday, April 16th, at 6:30 P.M., at Finley Stadium. The featured speaker is Russ Huesman, Head Coach of the Chattanooga Mocs football team. The dinner will be catered by O'Charley's Restaurant. Dress for OLPH football players is coat and tie. Additional information and details are available on the football website, www.olphfootball.com .
· New football team: From Coach Billy Dearing: We are excited to announce our plan to have a 7 and 8 year old football team next season. The YMCA is in the process of forming a tackle football league geared toward 7 and 8 year old boys. We will participate in the inaugural season. An information meeting will be conducted in May. Our primary goals will include learning fundamentals and having fun. Once the season begins, practices will be limited to twice a week. This should be a positive, fun and enjoyable experience. Though the team will be comprised primarily of OLPH students, it will not be an official school team. Rather, the team is run through the YMCA. · There are many OLPH Booster Club "spirit items" are available for sale. Please stop by the school office if you would like to purchase an item and help support the OLPH Booster Club. These are great items for athletes, students, and all family members!

SUMMER CAMPS: This is an overview of camps being offered at OLPH School. More details will be available within the next few weeks.

· Art Camp--Mrs. Ann Meinert will conduct an Art Camp at OLPH School in July. For students in upcoming grades 3rd-5th the camp will be July 5th-8th (Tuesday through Friday), from 9:00 A.M. until noon each day in the Art Room in Madonna Hall. For students in upcoming grades 6th-8th, the camp will be July 11th-15th (Monday through Friday), from 9:00 A.M. until noon each day in the Art Room. The students will be painting, using pastels, and clay. The cost of week 1 is $90.00 (4 days), and week 2 is $100.00 (5 days). A $25.00 deposit is required to hold a space; checks are made payable to Ann Meinert. Class size is limited so contact Mrs. Meinert right away at ahmeinert@aol.com or 423-227-9229.
· Book Club--Mrs. Nicole Tinney, 6th grade teacher at OLPH School, will conduct a Book Club for rising 4th-8th graders. The Club will meet on Tuesdays starting June 7th and ending July 5th from Noon to 2:00 P.M.in the school library. The cost is $25 per session or $100 for 5 weeks. · Cheerleading--Mrs. Nicole Tinney will conduct a Cheerleading Camp from June 27th to July 1st. More details to come.
· Drama--John Lennon and Zach DeSutter will conduct this camp for rising 1st - 5th graders from July 11th through July 15th. The camp will be from 9:00 A.M. to Noon, and will cost $100.00. More details to come.
· Football--The OLPH Football Skills Clinic and Camp will be June 13th - 17th, from 9:00 A.M. to Noon. The camp is coordinated by the OLPH Football coaching staff, along with several guest instructors. This year the camp will be open to rising 2nd through 8th graders. · Girls Just Wanna Have Fun--Mrs. Nicole Tinney will conduct this camp for girls in rising 1st through 8th grade. The camp will meet from June 13th through June 17th from 9:00 A.M. to Noon. The cost is $125.00. The boys have football, but Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! Come meet up with your old friends and make some new ones at this exciting camp just for girls. It is designed for girls to connect with other girls and learn some valuable skills that will help them be healthy, successful women in the future. More details to come.
· Science --Mrs. Nicole Tinney will conduct this camp for rising 5th through 8th graders. The camp will meet from June 27th through July 1st from 9:00 A.M. to Noon. The cost is $125.00. Did you know research shows that during the summer, students lose 25% of what they learned during the school year? The Green Machine: Summer Science Enrichment Camp is designed to enhance your child's understanding of scientific principles in alternate energy sources through hands-on activities, teamwork, and using creative problem solving skills. Children will experience enrichment activities with no test, no grades, and no homework--only a fun-filled learning experience.
· Stepping Up-To-Kindergarten--Mrs. Karen Carden and Mrs. Vickie Stovall, OLPH Kindergarten teachers will conduct this camp for rising kindergarteners from June 6th through June 10th from 9:00 to Noon. More details to come.
· Volleyball Camp--Mrs. Nicole Tinney will conduct this camp, July 18th through July 22nd, from 9:00 A.M. to Noon for rising 5th through 8th grade girls. The cost is $100.00. More details to come.
· Writing Workshop--Mrs. Katie Workman, 7th grade teacher at OLPH School will conduct this workshop. The campers will be writing to encourage growth in voice, detail, word choice and sophistication. · Operation Rice Bowl--OLPH Eighth Grade F.O.C.U.S. and School Lenten Project--The student and family contributions through Operation Rice Bowl support Catholic Relief Services projects around the world as well as projects in the Diocese of Knoxville. This week we are emphasizing "Express your care for God's creation". We can improve our communities by caring for and supporting our common resources. You may want to consider driving your car less and carpooling with others; shopping at a local farmer's market to support farmers in your area; or, recycling materials rather than throwing them in the trash can.

Students in grades K-1st are welcome to come and watch, but will not be able to launch their own rockets. There will be a $5.00 fee for these observers as well, but it will be waived if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

· OLPH School Committee is now accepting applications for 2011-2012 School committee openings. School Committee meets on a monthly basis and serves as an advisory board to the Pastor and Principal of OLPH School. This is an ideal way for working parents to become more involved in the school and fulfills PIP hour requirements. Membership is open to parents of OLPH students, alumni of OLPH School, parents of alumni, and members of OLPH Parish. Please prayerfully consider serving in this very important school ministry. · Home and School Association is accepting officer and committee chair nominations for the 2011-2012 school year. The Home and School Association is an integral part of our school and provides our teachers, students, classrooms, and school with so many things we could not afford if it weren't for this wonderful organization. · Sugar 'n Spice--Tickets are available to purchase!! The OLPH Sugar and Spice Brunch returns this spring on Saturday, April 2nd. Celebrate "The Joy of Being You!" For women and girls of all ages. It brings together our school and parish communities to promote virtue, fellowship, and fun. Guest speaker is Beth Matthews. There will be an auction/raffle, and other surprises. The event will be held in the OLPH School gym; tickets are $20. Proceeds benefit the Family Honor Program, Religious Education, and Ladies of Charity in our community. · St. Cecilia's Closet is in need of gently used OLPH School uniforms. This is a great time to clean out your kids closets and donate those uniforms that no longer fit. St. Cecilia's Closet is maintained by the Creative Arts Guild. There are also First Communion dresses and jackets for sale in the "Closet". All proceeds from the sales of the used uniforms benefits the arts at OLPH School, including arts-related field trips. The "Closet" is open Monday through Friday, from 7:45 to 3:45. Donations may be dropped off at the school office; a donation receipt can be given upon request.
· VIRTUS training--A training session will be held on Monday, April 18 in the PLC, from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. VIRTUS is a program for the protection of children and youth. The training is mandated by the Diocese of Knoxville, for all adults volunteering, chaperoning, or working with children. This includes faculty, staff, substitute teachers, coaches, classroom volunteers and boy/scout leaders. Registration is done online at www.virtus.org .
· Knights of Columbus Black and White Ball will be held on Saturday, April 9, at the Loose Cannon Gallery located at 1800 Rossville Avenue in Chattanooga, from 7:00 P.M. until 11:00 P.M. The Mailmen Band will provide entertainment. Cost is $30 per person. All proceeds will benefit tuition assistance for the Chattanooga Deanery Catholic Schools. · Spring Sports practices, games, and matches have begun! OLPH School has boys and girls tennis teams (6th-8th), co-ed track team (5th-8th), and a co-ed golf team (6th-8th). Meets/matches are posted in the calendar section of the Friday Fanfare. GO RAMS!
· Intramural Basketball for grades 3rd and 4th --The remaining dates for the Intramural Basketball program are the following Saturday mornings: March 19, March 26, April 9, and April 16, beginning at 9:00 A.M. The routine is: 9:00 to 9:30, practice on your half of the court; 9:30 to 10:00, play the team on the other half of the court. The playing schedule is: March 19--9:00, Team A v. Team D, and 10:00, Team B v. Team C; March 26--9:00, Team A v. Team C, and 10:00, Team B v. Team D; April 9-9:00, Team C v. Team D, and 10:00, Team A v. · OLPH Football Annual Awards Dinner will be Saturday, April 16th, at 6:30 P.M., at Finley Stadium. The featured speaker is Russ Huesman, Head Coach of the Chattanooga Mocs football team. The dinner will be catered by O'Charley's Restaurant. Dress for OLPH football players is coat and tie. Additional information and details are available on the football website, www.olphfootball.com .
· New football team: From Coach Billy Dearing: We are excited to announce our plan to have a 7 and 8 year old football team next season. The YMCA is in the process of forming a tackle football league geared toward 7 and 8 year old boys. We will participate in the inaugural season. An information meeting will be conducted in May. Our primary goals will include learning fundamentals and having fun. Once the season begins, practices will be limited to twice a week. This should be a positive, fun and enjoyable experience. Though the team will be comprised primarily of OLPH students, it will not be an official school team. Rather, the team is run through the YMCA. · There are many OLPH Booster Club "spirit items" are available for sale. Please stop by the school office if you would like to purchase an item and help support the OLPH Booster Club. These are great items for athletes, students, and all family members!

SUMMER CAMPS: Art, Football

· Art Camp--Mrs. Ann Meinert will conduct an Art Camp at OLPH School in July. For students in upcoming grades 3rd-5th the camp will be July 5th-8th (Tuesday through Friday), from 9:00 A.M. until noon each day in the Art Room in Madonna Hall. For students in upcoming grades 6th-8th, the camp will be July 11th-15th (Monday through Friday), from 9:00 A.M. until noon each day in the Art Room. The students will be painting, using pastels, and clay. The cost of week 1 is $90.00 (4 days), and week 2 is $100.00 (5 days). A $25.00 deposit is required to hold a space; checks are made payable to Ann Meinert. Class size is limited so contact Mrs. Meinert right away at ahmeinert@aol.com or 423-227-9229.
· Football--The OLPH Football Skills Clinic and Camp will be June 13 - 17, from 9:00 A.M. to Noon. The camp is coordinated by the OLPH Football coaching staff, along with several guest instructors.
