· Student recognition: Congratulations to Ty Dearing, 1st grader at OLPH School for placing first in the Chattanooga Area Soap Box Derby Rally held a few weekends ago. Ty is the youngest winner in the Rally's history. Ty won 16 races to claim the Stock Division Championship. He will represent Chattanooga the Soap Box Derby National Championships in Akron, Ohio, which is celebrating its 75th year of racing. Good job, Ty!

· VIRTUS training--VIRTUS is a program for the protection of children and youth. The training is mandated by the Diocese of Knoxville for all adults volunteering, chaperoning, or working with children. This includes faculty, staff, substitute teachers, coaches, classroom volunteers and boy/scout leaders. Registration is done online at www.virtus.org . SPORTS: Sports physicals, Booster Club Matching Fund Drive

· Sports physicals: We are scheduling OLPH parents/doctors to perform TSSAA sports physicals for the student athletes in grades 4th through 8th who anticipate participating in sports during the 2011-2012 school year. The physicals will be given during Registration Day, scheduled for Wednesday, August 3, from 7:30 to noon in the school gym. The physicals will cost $10 per student athlete, which is donated to the OLPH Booster Club. Physical forms are available in the school office and on our website, www.myolph.com, under "Athletics." The forms do require parent signatures.

· Booster Club Matching Fund Drive--The OLPH Sports Booster Club received a very generous offer from an anonymous donor in the form of a "matching" fund drive. This OLPH Church and School family has pledged $2000 toward the drive; every dollar OLPH families and Booster Club members donate will be matched. The drive ends May 31; checks may be mailed to OLPH Church Office, Attn: Ralph Christiana, 501 S. Moore Rd., Chattanooga, TN, 37412. The money will be used for various athletic improvements on the OLPH campus, including softball field, gym locker rooms, volleyball nets and poles, uniform purchases, and equipment replacement. · Field Day--The last day of school for students is Wednesday, May 25! On this day, Coach Close organizes outdoor games and activities for all students in grades 1st through 7th (8th graders and Kindergartners have already "graduated"). In addition to the games and activities, the Booster Club will sponsor a cookout for the students, faculty and parent volunteers. Order forms were sent home and e-mailed. The forms must be turned in no later Monday, May 23rd. · May Crowning--On Sunday, May 15th after the 10:00 Mass there will be a crowning of Mary on the front lawn of OLPH Church. All children are welcome to bring a flower to Mass and participate in the crowning.
· Home and School will hold an organizational meeting on Monday, May 16, at 6:00 P.M. From Glenn Gass, Home and School President for the 2011-2012 school year: The OLPH Home and School committee is looking for volunteers for the 2011-2012 school year. We have many positions that people have expressed an interest in, but there are still many more we need your help with. Most of the positions don't require lots of time, but when it comes to helping our kids, there are no small jobs. Right now someone is needed to act as the Oktoberfest Ram Run Chair and the Ram Run Volunteer Lead. These two positions are important to fill before the end of school since a majority of the Oktoberfest Ram Run planning will take place over the summer. · VIRTUS training--VIRTUS is a program for the protection of children and youth. The training is mandated by the Diocese of Knoxville, for all adults volunteering, chaperoning, or working with children. This includes faculty, staff, substitute teachers, coaches, classroom volunteers and boy/scout leaders. Registration is done online at www.virtus.org . VIRTUS training sessions will be held this spring and summer: St. Jude Church, Thursday, May 19, 1:00 P.M.; St. Therese of Lisieux, Sunday, June 12, 1:30 P.M.; St. Jude Church, Thursday, July 28, 6:00 P.M.; St. Stephen Church, Wednesday, August 17, 6:00 P.M.; St. Jude Church, Thursday, September 22, 1:00 P.M.; and St. Jude Church, Thursday, November 1, 6:00 P.M.
· OLPH School is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year for students in Pre-K (4 yr. old) through 8th grade. OLPH School has been educating students since 1937. We believe in "Educating Minds, Enlightening Souls, and Strengthening Bodies." SPORTS: Field Day, Spring Sports, Booster Club Matching Fund Drive, Football information


· Field Day--The last day of school for students is Wednesday, May 25! On this day, Coach Close organizes outdoor games and activities for all students in grades 1st through 7th (8th graders and Kindergartners have already "graduated"). In addition to the games and activities, the Booster Club will sponsor a cookout for the students, faculty and parent volunteers (order forms will go home with all students after Easter Break). If you are able to help Coach Close with the field day events and/or cookout please contact him at tclose1717@bellsouth.net or Mrs. Hannah Jones at olphschooloffice@catholicweb.com . Booster Club spirit items will also be for sale during Field Day.
· Spring Sports games and matches are almost over!
o Golf update: Individual scores can be found at http://iscgolf.org/index.php/Main/Advanced . The golf team played in the season ending tournament on Thursday, May 12 at Valleybrook.
· Booster Club Matching Fund Drive--The Booster Club has received a very generous offer from an anonymous donor in the form of a "matching" fund drive. This OLPH Church and School family has pledged $2000 toward the drive; every dollar OLPH families and Booster Club members donate between now and May 31, will be matched. So, your $25 donation becomes $50; your $50 donation becomes $100, and so on! The money will be used for various athletic improvements on the OLPH campus, including softball field, gym locker rooms, volleyball nets and poles, uniform purchases, and equipment replacement. Your donation may be sent to the OLPH School office with the envelope addressed to the OLPH Booster Club, c/o Tom Lundquist or Marina Delaney; please mark the envelope "2011 Spring Matching Fundraiser" so that your donation will be credited toward the match. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. The OLPH Booster Club is here to assist the OLPH Athletic Program, coaches, athletes and parents. · 7/8 year old football--From Coach Dearing: We will have our first meeting and brief practice right after school on Wednesday, May 18. Please plan to meet on the football field bleachers at 2:45. Parents are asked to attend for a brief meeting. Boys should bring cleats, shorts, and t-shirt for a one hour practice.
