· Notre Dame High School Admissions Testing--NDHS is currently accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year. Admissions testing will be Saturday, November 5, 2011. · Makers Club--Makers Club will have the second fall program on November 29, December 6, and December 13. This program's focus is on cooking. Students will work on knife skills, basics of cooking, and following recipes. The students will prepare crab risotto, pumpkin soup, and quick bread, if ingredients are available. There is a $30 fee for the program and payment is due by November 29; due to the direct supervision required only 5 positions are available in this program for students in grades 4th - 8th. The students will be using sharp knives and hot pans, so cuts and burns are a possibility. Students with food allergies are asked to not participate.

· Anniversary celebration--Fr. Mike Creson will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of his priestly ordination at a concelebrated Mass, presided by The Most Reverend Richard F. Stika, Bishop of the Diocese of Knoxville. The Mass will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011, at 6:00 P.M. at OLPH Church. · Thanksgiving Food Drive-- OLPH School and Parish is helping Catholic Charities with their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Food will be collected for 250 families this year. Please send in the following food items by Friday, November 18th.

OLPH, Notre Dame and St. Jude will be hosting an evening for adults to enjoy dinner, music and dancing and a silent auction. Ticket sales will begin before Christmas, and will be sold at all parishes, schools, online and possibly at local businesses.
· Shop with Scrip-- Sunday, November 6th is "Scrip Sunday." Scrip cards will be available for purchase after all weekend Masses. Shopping with Scrip supports OLPH School without any fundraising....it doesn't get better than that! · Ladies Bible Study--Courageous Virtue by Stacy Mitch, "A Bible Study on Moral Excellence for Women" began on Wednesday, October 26th. Join us as we gain new insights and discuss the Theological Virtues of Faith, Hope and Love, and the Cardinal Virtues of Fortitude, Temperance, Justice and Prudence. Trunk or Treat

· Student recognition--Congratulations to Keri Klassen, 8th grader at OLPH School. Keri has been named to the ISC All-Conference Volleyball Team. Keri is an overall great player, with an especially good serve, and is an awesome setter. Good job, Keri!

· Lifetouch pictures-- Proofs were given to the students on Friday, September 30. Parents/Guardians please read the order form information inside the proof envelope and return the order forms by Monday, October 24, to your child's homeroom teacher. If you are not purchasing any pictures, please return the proof to the homeroom teacher. Retakes will be taken Tuesday, October 25, if you are not happy with the proof.

· Makers Club--Makers Club will begin the first fall program with a great kick-off. Lego Makers is a beginning to intermediate Lego building program. Concentration will be on following instructions, reading, and building. It is targeted for 1st and 2nd grade students, but older students with an interest in Legos will be happily welcomed. This is a three class program with meeting dates of October 25, November 1, and November 8; the students will meet in the Kindergarten building from 3:30 to 5:00--all students must be picked up by 5:15. There is a $40 non-refundable fee for each participant that is due October 24; students will keep the Lego kits they build. Students should bring a snack. · OKTOBERFEST RAM RUN - The OLPH Oktoberfest Ram Run 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will be Saturday, October 22nd at the First Tennessee Pavilion located on Carter Street. Registration begins at 7:30 A.M. The 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk begins at 8:30 A.M. and the 5K begins at 9:00 A.M. Then, stay and enjoy great German food, free live music, and handcrafted art from local vendors at the Chattanooga Market. OLPH will have their famous Brat Booth so make plans to attend Chattanooga Oktoberfest at the Chattanooga Market on Saturday, October 22nd and Sunday, October 23rd. Awards, door prizes and refreshments to follow race! All youth participants in the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk will receive a ribbon. SPORTS: 7/8 Soccer, Football

· 7/8 grade Soccer--Practice for the 7/8 grade co-ed soccer team has begun. All players must have a current physical on file to begin practice. Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays, from 3:30 to 5:00. The first game is scheduled for October 25 at OLPH, 4:30 v. Oakwood. Athletes, remember to bring cleats, shin guards, and a water bottle. If you have not signed up yet, please do so, especially football and volleyball players!

· THE OLPH FOOTBALL PROGRAM had another big week. Coming off an impressive victory over Saint Joseph (Nashville) in the Outback Bowl, the Rams continued to roll with a dominating victory over the Irish. The Rams played the Irish "under the lights" at Notre Dame High School last Friday evening. Despite having three touchdowns called back, the Rams still cruised to the win by a wide margin, 28-6. Ricky Ballard had 172 yards rushing, Tyler Enos had 12 solo tackles, Addison Hutton threw a touchdown pass, and Alex Darras dominated the offensive and defensive line. With the victory, the Rams improved to 11-1 on the season - - which ties the all-time victory mark in OLPH football's storied 64 year history. The U12 Rams have become the "cardiac kids" - - having won the last two games on the final play of the game. The Rams defeated Signal Mountain in overtime. Jeremy Harris scored to put the Rams in a position to win the game with a two point conversion. Adams Robinson broke three tackles and darted into the end zone for the pivotal, game-winning conversion. The OLPH Cheerleaders once again cheered the OLPH Football Team to victory and showed their OLPH School Spirit!

STUDENT NEWS: Parent-Teacher Conferences, Lifetouch Picture Proofs, Middle School Dance, Homework Policy

· Parent/Teacher Conferences--Wednesday, October 12 is Parent/Teacher Conference Day. Report cards will be given to parents during these conferences; they should be scheduled with the teacher, and will begin after school. Because of the conferences being all evening, there will only be a half day of school on Friday, October 14. For parents who do not come to conferences, the report cards will be sent home with the students on Thursday. For those parents who need a conference, but cannot come in on Wednesday evening, contact the teacher to set up another appointment.

· Lifetouch pictures-- Proofs were given to the students on Friday, September 30. · Homework Policy-- Handbook, page 9: Students must make up work missed during their absence from school. The student will be allowed 1 day per each day absent to turn in missed work or make up missed tests and quizzes. Homework policies are as follows:

o Primary grades (K – 2nd): The student and teacher shall work together to make up any missed assignment.

o Intermediate grades (3rd—5th): The first day absent no homework will be gathered for the student. The teacher will fill out the “Work for an Absent Student” form to give to the student the next day. If the student is out for more than one day the teachers will gather the homework and books and will have them on the bench outside of the school office by 3:00 P.M. This will apply to the second day absent and any days thereafter.

o Middle grades (6th – 8th): All missing assignments may be accessed through ParentsWeb. If the student is out for more than one day parents may request the necessary textbooks to be picked up on the bench outside of the school office by 3:00 P.M.

· Home and School Committee Meeting--The OLPH Home and School Committee meeting scheduled for October has been cancelled due to current work being done to prepare for the Ram Run and Trunk or Treat. President Glenn Gass would like to thank everyone for their interest in the Home and School Committee.

· Trunk or Treat--The Committee preparing "Trunk or Treat" will have a table set up after all Masses in Holy Family Hall this weekend (October 8 and 9). The committee is asking for volunteers and donations to help with Trunk or Treat, scheduled for Saturday, October 29--more details in an upcoming Fanfare!

SPORTS: 7/8 Soccer, Football News, Football Games

· 7/8 grade Soccer--Practice for the 7/8 grade co-ed soccer team has begun. All players must have a current physical on file to begin practice. Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays, from 3:30 to 5:00. The first game is scheduled for October 25 at OLPH, 4:30 v. Oakwood. Athletes, remember to bring cleats, shin guards, and a water bottle. If you have not signed up yet, please do so, especially football and volleyball players!

· Football News--The OLPH Football Team thanks the fans who supported the Choo-Choo Bowl on Saturday, October 1, at OLPH. The marquee match-up of the day was the Middle School Rams against St. Joseph of Nashville. The Rams played great on both sides of the ball, winning 26-0. Alex Darras had a huge day (even nailed a 50 yard field goal in warm-ups). Ricky Ballard led the offense and Tyler Enos led the defense. Addison Hutton, Michael Quatrano, James Teal and Nick Grannan made significant contributions. The OLPH football nation celebrated the victories (the U10 and U12 Rams were also victorious!) with a great cookout/lunch provided by Outback Steakhouse. The team thanks all for their support.

· Football Games--The Rams take on the "Irish Club" Friday, October 7 in another "Friday Night Lights" contest. The game is at Notre Dame High School, and kick-off is at 8:45 P.M. The Rams plan to tailgate beginning at 7:00 P.M. Please come join us.
