STUDENT NEWS: Book Fair, Band Concert, Cooking class

· Book Fair-- OLPH Fall Book Fair will be held in the school library December 3rd through December 9th from 7:45 A.M. to 3:45 P.M. (school days), and during Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 3rd.
· Breakfast with Santa--OLPH Home and School Committee is hosting Breakfast with Santa, which will be Saturday, December 3rd, in the PLC. Breakfast is $10 per person with a maximum charge of $30 per family. Grandparents are $10 per person; however, all grandparents in one family may attend for a total of $20. Reservations must be made online at http://olphhomeandschool.weebly.com/index.html . There is a maximum of 20 tables served per hour--the 9:00 and 10:00 servings are filling up quickly, so hurry and reserve a space! An email will be sent with your exact reservation time; seating will be every 15 minutes. Breakfast will consist of pancakes, sausage, eggs, and choice of beverage. Before breakfast is served, pictures will be taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus, with each family receiving a 5 x 7 picture as a memento. During breakfast, the Spirits of Christmas and winter will visit. After breakfast, reindeer games, and arts and crafts will be enjoyed in the OLPH School gym. Parents will have the opportunity to purchase additional pictures.
· Band Concert--The combined OLPH and St. Jude Bands, grades 5th through 8th, will be playing their annual Christmas Concert at Notre Dame High School on Tuesday, December 6, at 7:00 P.M. The High School concert band, percussion ensemble, and jazz band will also play.
· Cooking class--A Christmas cooking class is being held at Notre Dame High on December 17th for first through fifth graders. Flyers with registration forms were emailed. For more information contact Mrs. Cindy Storey at storeyc@myndhs.com .




SCHOOL NEWS: Gym bathroom remodel, Women's Advent Reflection,

Advent Giving Tree

· Gym bathroom remodel--The OLPH Home and School Committee is endeavoring to remodel the men's and ladies' restrooms and the boys and girls locker rooms in the OLPH gymnasium, beginning with the restrooms. The Committee would like to have the restrooms finished before basketball season, which begins in January. Anyone with expertise in plumbing or tile work who can help with the work or with consulting advice, please contact David Flowers at 423-309-7496 or email david@davidflowers.org .
· Women's Advent Reflection--On Saturday, December 3rd, Sister Mary Evelyn Potts, Dominican Order of Saint Cecilia, Nashville, and Director of Mission and Catholic Identity at Notre Dame High School, will be sharing some beautiful ways to prepare for Christmas. The Reflection will be held in the library at Notre Dame High School. Breakfast will be served at 9:30 A.M. followed by the reflection. Please RSVP to 423-624-4618, ext. 1001, if you plan to attend.
· Advent Giving Tree--The holiday season is quickly approaching, and as in past years, OLPH School and Parish have adopted families through Catholic Charities. This year we have several families that need our help. The Advent "Giving Tree" will be set up in Holy Family Hall the weekend of November 26-27 and parish and school families will have an opportunity to pick an "ORNAMENT" from the tree. The gifts provided will bring Christmas cheer to many families in the Chattanooga area, reminding us of the importance of charity. SPORTS: Basketball teams, "Hoody" sale, Irish Wrestling club

· Basketball teams--OLPH Rams basketball will consist of the following teams: 5th Grade Girls, Varsity Girls, Junior Varsity Boys, and Varsity Boys. Practices may begin the week we return after Thanksgiving Break. Parents will be notified by email as to what team their child is on, and when their team will begin practice. Individual coaches will then provide their teams with their practice and game schedule.
· "Hoody" sale--The OLPH Sports Booster Club still has a few hoodies for sale in the following sizes: Adult XL, Adult L, Adult M, and Youth S. Please contact Hannah Jones at olphschooloffice@catholicweb.com if you would like to purchase. The cost is $20 per hoody--checks are made payable to OLPH Booster Club.
· Irish Wrestling Club--The Irish Wrestling Club is open to elementary school wrestlers, grades K through 5th. The season will consist of practices Monday and Wednesday at 5:45 P.M. Competitions will be held on Fridays and Saturdays in December through February. Parents may register their child at any practice through the month of January. Each club member will be required to pay a membership/coaching fee of $75. Additional fees include tournament entry fees and AAU membership card. STUDENT NEWS: "Thanksgiving Lunch"

· "Thanksgiving Lunch"--On Thursday, November 17, the cafeteria lunch will be turkey and dressing. As with any day, parents and siblings are invited to eat with their student; however, the cost of the Thanksgiving adult lunch is $5.00; a child visitor is $2.50. The lunch payment will be debited from the student's account, so cash payment in advance is not necessary. Reservations, however, are essential, and must be made by Noon on Monday, November 14. Contact the school office at 423-622-1481, or email olphschooloffice@catholicweb.com, to make your reservation. The lunch times will vary somewhat, but the students will still eat around the same time as their regular lunch time: PreK--11:50, Kindergarten--10:40, 1st & 2nd--10:55, 3rd & 4th--11:50, 5th & 6th--11:25, and 7th & 8th--12:15. Parents/siblings who have made their reservations are to sign in at the school office and get a lunch ticket to take to the cafeteria.

Football update

· Basketball sign-ups-- Boys and girls in grades 5th through 8th will begin signing up for basketball the week of November 14. A sign-up form has been emailed to all students in those grades; it is also available on our website, as well as in the office. The form must be returned to Coach Close or the school office by Friday, November 18. If teams are full by this date, no late sign-ups will be accepted.

· 7/8 Soccer--The 7/8 grade soccer team continues to be victorious, with a recent win over the Patriots. Please check the calendar for upcoming game times. Go Rams!!

· Football update--The U8 Rams defeated Boynton in the third round of the playoffs and have earned a spot in the Scenic City Championship "Super Bowl." The championship game is at noon, Saturday, November 12 at Central High School. The team is taking on powerful Dayton. Go Little Rams!

· Ram Run pictures--Dear Parents, the Yearbook Staff is hoping that you took lots of pictures of this year's Ram Run. · OLPH RAMS hoody sweatshirts are being ordered by the OLPH Sports Booster Club. The grey hoody sweatshirt will have a Rams head on the front, with the words, "OLPH RAMS." An email was sent to all parents, as well as a paper order form sent with the students. The hoodies are available in sizes Youth Small through Adult XXL. The cost for sizes Youth Small through Adult XL is $20.00; the cost for Adult XXL is $25.00. The sweatshirt order form and payment (check made payable to OLPH Booster Club) are due to the school office by Wednesday, November 9. Delivery is expected before Thanksgiving. These are approved to wear in the classroom. And they would make great Christmas gifts! Go Rams!

SCHOOL NEWS: Nature's Place, Home and School meeting, Chick-fil-A Spirit Night, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Applications/Open House for 2012-2013 school year, Scrip Sunday

· Nature's Place-- There will be a work day, weather permitting, Saturday, November 5, from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Nature's Place is close to completion; the application for certification by the Arbor Day Foundation will then be submitted. Saturday's activities include: constructing climbing platforms and steps, sanding cedar posts, preparing planting areas, and constructing the backdrop for the stage. · Home and School Meeting --The second Home and School meeting of this school year will be held Tuesday, November 8, at 6:00 P.M., in the gym. The Committee is inviting the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to attend the meeting, as well as any student from any grade who wishes to attend. Breakfast with Santa will be discussed as well as updates from other Home and School events. Babysitting will not be available.

· Chick-fil-A Spirit Night will be Thursday, November 10 from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Chick-fil-A restaurant located on Gunbarrel Road in front of Target/Kohl's. OLPH will receive 20% of sales from fliers that OLPH families turn in to Chick-fil-A during that time. The teacher with the most fliers turned in will win a Chick-fil-A Nugget tray for their classroom. Bring your family and friends to Chick-fil-A on Thursday, November 10th!

· Football News-- The OLPH Rams middle school team ended the season 12-1, earning the greatest number of victories in school history. The team included some of the very best players in Hamilton County. Tyler Enos, Alex Darras, Ricky Ballard, Addison Hutton, Michael Quatrano, and Nick Grannan enjoyed outstanding "All-Star" seasons. Others who played great include Gehrig Johnson, James Teal, and Pen Sibley. The Rams team also had the top cheerleaders in town! The U12 team had a winning season, with key victories over McCallie, Boyd Buchanan, and Signal Mountain. This team had a knack for pulling out the close games, winning the last two games on the final play of the game. Adams Robinson, Jeremy Harris and Sam Stovall were standouts. The U10 team lost by a touchdown in the playoffs, ending a great season. Curtis Dearing, Brendan Greene, and Jason Oliver were standouts. The U8 Rams are still playing and in contention for the Scenic City League Championship. These Rams defeated Hixson to advance to the semi-finals against Boynton. Bennett Brinson, Nicolas Robinson, Charlie Menham, and Ross Norman played great in the playoff victory. The U8 Rams play at 2:00 Saturday, November 5, at the Hixson Youth Complex.

CHURCH NEWS: Family Prayer Time, Anniversary Celebration for Fr. Mike Creson

· Family Prayer Time--Looking for some family prayer time? How about attending Mass and then praying the Rosary on the first Saturday of the month? Consider joining the Prayer Group on December 3, January 7, February 4, and March 3. Mass will be celebrated at 8:15, followed by the rosary.

· Anniversary celebration--Fr. Mike Creson will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of his priestly ordination at a concelebrated Mass, presided by The Most Reverend Richard F. Stika, Bishop of the Diocese of Knoxville. The Mass will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011, at 6:00 P.M. at OLPH Church. All are invited to attend this Anniversary Mass and the celebration dinner immediately following in the OLPH Parish gym.
