STUDENT NEWS: Student Recognitions, Report cards

· Student Recognitions--Congratulations to the following 7th and 8th graders for their finishes in the OLPH Geography Bee: 1st Place-- Paul Acosta, 2nd Place--Lucas Mullin, and 3rd Place--Ricky Ballard. As the winner at OLPH, Paul will take a written test to see if he qualifies for the state competition. Good job!!

· Report Cards--Report cards for the second nine weeks will be sent home with the students on January 12, 2012. All accounts are to be paid in full by January 10, 2012 (Lunch, After School Care, library books, appropriate sports uniforms), in order for the students to receive the report cards.

SCHOOL NEWS: St. Cecilia's Closet, Applications for 2012-2013

· St. Cecilia's Closet--There are plenty of uniform items appropriate for the winter season and your growing children. As always, donations are continuously accepted. Remember, 100% of the proceeds from St. Cecilia's Closet are directly funded to the OLPH School children, so everyone benefits! The monies provide art supplies, band/music equipment, Christmas Program supplies, and field trips fees (such as the High Museum in Atlanta, the Chattanooga Theatre Center), and so much more, for all grades.

· Applications for the 2012-2013--OLPH School is accepting applications for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year for students in grades Pre-K through 8th. For additional information or a tour of the school please contact Teresa Hennen, Director of Admissions at 423-698-3274 or email teresahennen@catholicweb.com .

· CHATTIGRAS - The Chattanooga Area Schools (OLPH, St. Jude and Notre Dame High School) along with area Knights of Columbus and Catholic Churches have combined efforts to sponsor a large city-wide fundraising event to support our Catholic Schools and the Chattanooga Catholic Schools Education Fund. This event will be a city-wide Mardi Gras "Chattanooga Style" on Saturday, February 18, 2012. To sponsor this event or help with auction items please contact Kathy Sumrell at 423-622-1481 or ksumrell@catholicweb.com. Or, visit the Chattanooga Catholic Schools website at communications@ourccs.com. Early ticket sales will cost $45.00 each. Tickets sold after Christmas will cost $50.00 per ticket. We have a special basket package available for sale as well - the cost is $192.00 and includes two tickets, a night for two at the Marriot on February 18, 2012, a bottle of wine and some snacks…..a perfect "date night" Christmas gift. · Spring sports sign-up--The scheduling of spring sports (track & field, golf, tennis, baseball, softball) will take place Tuesday, January 17, 2012; therefore, students interested in participating in any of these sports need to notify Coach Todd Close by 3:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 17. · Report Cards--Report cards for the second nine weeks will be sent home with the students on January 12, 2012. All accounts are to be paid in full by January 10, 2012 (Lunch, After School Care, library books, appropriate sports uniforms), in order for the students to receive the report cards.

· Children's Christmas Party--Knights of Columbus Council 6099 is sponsoring a party on Sunday, December 18, from 2:00 to 4:00 at the K of C Hall, 7615 Lee Highway in Chattanooga. Festivities include a live magic show, Christmas sing-a-longs, lunch and drinks (provided), and a special guest appearance by Santa Claus (Parents, remember to bring your cameras!). RSVP's are not necessary.

SCHOOL NEWS: CAG Ornament Sale, Christmas Program DVD, St. Cecilia's Closet, Applications for 2012-2013

· CAG Ornament Sale--The Creative Arts Guild has OLPH Christmas tree ornaments for sale for $1 in the school office. These are a great gift for grandparents and extended family to remind them of the blessing of our OLPH children. Contact Hannah Jones at olphschooloffice@catholicweb.com if you would like to purchase some ornaments.

· Christmas Program DVD--Glenn Gass is recording the Christmas Program on Monday night and will print DVD's for parents to purchase. The proceeds of this DVD will go to Makers Club and Home and School Association. At least two parents are needed to tape the entire program on digital recorders. Anyone with a DIGITAL camera capable of recording both video and audio, and who are willing to help, please email Glenn Gass at glennagassjr@gmail.com . Any video furnished by the parents will reduce the cost of professional videographers.

STUDENT NEWS: Student Recognitions

· Student Recognition--OLPH seventh grader James West will be attending Lower Southeast Tennessee Junior Clinic Band at Lee University on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10. James won fourth chair trombone in the seventh grade honors band through a very competitive audition process. This means that James ranked number four out of all seventh grade trombone students trying out for honors band from our entire district. Ninth grade OLPH alumnus Anthony Smith also won second chair blue band on the tuba for the same event. A concert will be held in Conn Center at Lee University on Saturday, December 10, at 3:00 P.M. Congratulations, James and Anthony!

· Student Recognition--Congratulations to Lauren Collins, seventh grader at OLPH, for her performances in the Nutcracker with the Chattanooga Ballet at the Tivoli Theatre. Lauren was involved in all of the performances, including those for area schools. There are also public performances the weekend of December 9, 10, and 11. Good job, Lauren!
