STUDENT NEWS: Pictures by Lifetouch, B.V.M. Awards
·         Pictures by Lifetouch--Lifetouch Studios took individual student portraits on Monday, April 23. Portrait packages will be sent home with students in approximately three weeks--these packages are either purchased by the parent (checks made to Lifetouch), or returned to the school by May 21st.
·         B.V.M. Christian Living Awards--Over the past 10 years we have honored the Sisters of Charity by identifying students from each grade who exemplify the mission and core values of the Sisters of Charity, Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In accordance with the Mission of the Sisters, the students chosen to receive this award show faithfulness and love of God to those in the community and to all of God's people. They use the gifts of freedom, education, charity, and justice in their daily virtuous lives. The Sisters will receive a list of names and a picture of the students receiving the award each year. The winners of this award will be announced after the 8:15 mass on Friday, May 4.

SCHOOL NEWS: Calendar Update, Band Concert, OLPH Yearbook, Ram Run 2012, Applications for 2012-2013
·         Calendar Update--Please note that May Crowning will now be held Friday, May 11, after 8:15 mass.
·         Band Concert--The Chattanooga Area Catholic Schools Band Spring Concert will be held at Notre Dame High School on Tuesday, May 8, at 7:00 P.M. All OLPH, St. Jude, and Notre Dame Bands will be playing.
·         OLPH Yearbook--Orders are now being taken for the 2011-2012 school year OLPH Yearbook. The cost of the yearbook is $30 if paid before May 18, and $35 if paid after May 18. Yearbooks are expected to be delivered in time for Registration Day, Wednesday, August 8, 2012. Order forms are available in the school office.
·         Ram Run 2012--We're gearing up for this year's Ram run on October 13. As you know, this is the school's biggest fundraiser and last year we raised close to $9,000. This year we're hoping to exceed $10,000, but we need your help! If you own a business or work for a company that might be interested in being a sponsor this year, please email Dawn McAbee at dvscavett@yahoo.com for details on how to participate.
·         Applications for the 2012-2013--OLPH School is accepting applications for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year for students in grades Pre-K through 8th. Sports: Track Update
·         Track Update-- Track Update--OLPH boys’ track team clenched first place and the girls’ team finished second at the ISC Championship track meet on Thursday, April 26th.  Hannah Ingle came in 3rd in the 1600, Macy Dearing won 2nd in the 800, and Emalyn San Miguel finished 2nd in the 400. The girls 4x400 relay made up of Camden Eckler, Ema San Miguel, Hannah Ingle, and Macy Dearing finished in second place. Adams Robinson came in third in the long jump, Charlie Johnson won the 800 race, Lucas Mullin won the 1600, Ricky Ballard won the 200, and Tyler Enos won the shot put and came in second in the 400. The boys 4x400 relay made up of Adams Robinson, Charlie Johnson, Lucas Mullin, and Ricky Ballard won by 23 seconds!
Summer Camp Information: A formal Summer Camp brochure will not be published.
 The following camps are being planned at OLPH School for the summer, 2012:
·         Summer Art Camp--Mrs. Meinert will be conducting Summer Art Camps during the following times:
o   Rising 3rd-5th graders, July 2 - 6, 9:00 A.M. to Noon, $100 per student
o   Rising 6th-8th graders, July 9 - 13, 9:00 A.M. to Noon, $100 per student

·         Football--The OLPH Football Camp and Skills Clinic is set for June 11-15, 9:00 A.M.-Noon. The camp is for rising 2nd through 8th graders. ·         Stepping up to Kindergarten--Is your child ready for Kindergarten? Get a head start with this "Stepping-Up" camp. The theme for the week is Summer Fun! Children will enjoy crafts, language arts, math, religion, science, and social studies activities. This camp will provide many hands-on classroom experiences as an introduction to the kindergarten environment. The children will enjoy recess and snack too! WOW! Who could imagine that school could be this much fun!!!!  Applications are available in the school and church offices or call 423-622-7232.

STUDENT NEWS: Student Recognitions, Pictures by Lifetouch, Spring Book Fair, Spring Art Show

· Student Recognitions--Congratulations to the following OLPH 7th graders for their recent participation in the Duke University Talent Identification Program: Sawyer Champlin, Lauren Collins, Moranda Pierce, and Emalyn San Miguel. 'The talent search pool is a special group of students who are demonstrating a high level of achievement on tests with a ceiling appropriate for their age and grade. ' These students qualified for "State Recognition", "Grand Recognition", "Academy for Summer Studies", and/or "Center for Summer Studies." We are very proud of you!!

· Pictures by Lifetouch--Lifetouch Studios will be taking individual student portraits on Monday, April 23. Students are out of uniform--please read the handbook, page16, for appropriate out of uniform attire. Portrait packages will be sent home with students in approximately three weeks--these packages are either purchased by the parent (checks made to Lifetouch), or returned to the school by May 21st. Spring sports group pictures will also be taken--this includes baseball, golf, tennis and track--athletes are to bring their uniform for the picture--sports pictures are to be prepaid and pre-ordered.

· Spring Book Fair-Grandparents and Parents, feel like spoiling terrific child?! Give the gift that will last. The OLPH Spring Book Fair will be held in the school library Monday, April 23 through Thursday, April 26, from 7:45 to 3:45, and Friday, April 27, in the PLC, from 7:45 to Noon.

· Spring Art Show--The Spring Art Show will be displayed April 27 in the PLC. Students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade may participate. Mrs. Meinert will be sending more information in her upcoming expectations letter to parents.

· Calendar Update--Please note that on Friday, April 27 (Grandparents' Day), dismissal will be at 11:30. Lunch will not be served, and After School Care will not be open.

· Grandparents' Day--Grandparents' Day is scheduled for Friday, April 27. The celebration begins with Mass at 8:15 A.M. followed by a continental breakfast and entertainment by the students in the OLPH gymnasium. There will be an Art Show and Book Fair in the PLC. Grandparents are also welcome to visit the classrooms. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 (see note above).

· OLPH Yearbook--Orders are now being taken for the 2011-2012 school year OLPH Yearbook. The cost of the yearbook is $30 if paid before May 18, and $35 if paid after May 18. SPORTS: Track Recap, Golf News

· Track Recap--The track team ended the regular season with a BANG! Macy Dearing and Adams Robinson finished first in the 800 meter race. Hannah Ingle and Lucas Mullin finished first in the mile race. Lucas ran a sub 6 minute mile while Hannah and Camden Eckler ran sub 7 minute miles. Tyler Enos threw a record breaking 96.5 feet in the discus. Adams Robinson, Lucas Mullin, Tyler Enos, and Ricky Ballard won the 4 x 400 meter race. Macy Dearing, Ema San Miguel, Madison Ramey, and Hannah Ingle won the girls 4 x 400 while also beating all the other schools boys' team. The OLPH Track Team will compete in the ISC Championship on Thursday, April 26, at GPS, starting at 4:15.

· Golf News--The OLPH Golf Team finished second in Wednesday's match against St. Jude and CAMS. The best score for the team was Zachary Riddle's, with a 47. The team has one more match next week, and the end of the season tournament will be on April 30 at Moccasin Bend. Check the Friday Fanfare under "School Calendar" for the dates and locations. Come out and cheer (quietly!) them on!!

· Booster Club Committee Nominations-- If you would like to play an active role in OLPH athletics now is the time!! The OLPH Booster Club is accepting nominations for the Executive Committee. Nominees are taken from OLPH Booster Club members. The Executive Committee Officers positions are as follows: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Nominations should be submitted to the Athletic Director, Todd Close, at tclose1717@bellsouth.net. Nominations began March 27, 2012 and will end Monday, April 9, 2012. Coach Close will announce all nominations on April 9th; elections will be held at the OLPH Booster Club Meeting on May 7 at 6:00 P.M. in the library. o Easter Triduum--By ancient Christian Tradition 'Morning Prayer' will be celebrated during the Triduum.

§ Holy Thursday, April 5th - Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, 7:00 P.M. (Lent ends with this celebration)

§ Good Friday, April 6th--Morning Prayer, 8:15 A.M., Stations of the Cross, 3:00 P.M., Celebration of the Lord's Passion, 7:00 P.M.

§ Holy Saturday, April 7th--Morning Prayer, 8:15 A.M., the Great Vigil of Easter, 8:00 P.M. (No Mass at 5:30 P.M.)

§ Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord--April 8th, 7:30 A.M., 10:00 A.M., Noon; and 2:00 P.M. en EspaƱol

· Parish Office schedule: The Parish Office will be closed Good Friday, April 6, and Easter Monday, April 9. The office will be open Tuesday, April 10 through Thursday, April 12 from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. The office will be closed Friday, April 13. Regular office hours will resume on April 16.
