STUDENT NEWS: Yearbook, Makers Club, Art Camp, Kids in the Kitchen
·         Yearbook--It's time to preorder your 2012-2013 yearbook! From now until May 22nd the cost of a yearbook is $30; after May 22nd the cost is $35. There are a limited number of yearbooks being printed so be sure to order yours now! Each student was given an order form; completed forms are to be returned to Mrs. Carleen Evans, 5th grade teacher, with checks made payable to OLPH. An order form may also be downloaded from your ParentsWeb account under the "Resource Document" heading.
·         Makers Club--OLPH Makers Club will begin the last program of the year on Tuesday. It is open to any student 4th grade to 8th grade on a first come, first serve basis. Meetings will be held each Tuesday from 3:30 until 5:00 for the remainder of the school year. The Club will be studying video game design and programming; the students will design and administer a Minecraft server. The goals include level design, load balancing, and chat and player management. These goals will give the young people the experience of running a video game company while providing a service to the other young people in the school allowing them a chance to play on a safe and student maintained server. Chat logs will be monitored by adults each night. A Minecraft account will be required for online play. There is a $30 fee if the account is purchased through Makers Club; or, you can purchase an account directly for a small savings through Minecraft.net. There is no additional cost other than for the Minecraft account. If you already have an account or you don't want to play you can attend for free. Students just wishing to play can log on with either the PC or Mac version of the game at 173.247.26.55. Sorry, no IPhone/I pad/Android play--you have to use a real computer. ·         Art Camp--Notre Dame High School is sponsoring two weeks of Art Camps this summer: Rising 5th-8th, June 10-14; and, Rising 1st-4th, June 17-21. The cost of each week is $125.00. Registration information available at http://www.myndhs.com/student-life/summercamp.cfm .
·         Kids in the Kitchen--The Junior League of Chattanooga and the Association of Junior Leagues International are sponsoring Kids in the Kitchen, a FREE, fun-filled day for kids to learn about healthy eating and exercise. The 6th annual Kids in the Kitchen will be held at Coolidge Park in Walker Pavilion from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.  on Saturday, May 4. Activities include educational games, special performances, physical activities including yoga and Pilates, chef demonstrations and healthy snacks, along with free samples, giveaways and prizes.  More information about Kids in the Kitchen and the Junior League can be found at www.jlchatt.org and http://kidsinthekitchen.ajli.org/.

SCHOOL NEWS: Home and School meeting, CAG/St. Cecilia's Closet, Ram Run
·         Home and School meeting--The last Home and School meeting for the 2012-2013 school year is Wednesday, May 1, at 6:00 P.M. in the gym. We would like to thank Mrs. Pack and Mrs. Meinert for their years of service and their dedication to O.L.P.H., by hosting an Appreciation Get-Together at the meeting. Knights of Columbus will be presenting a gift to the Home and School and a surprise for one of the classes. We look forward to seeing everyone!
·         CAG/St. Cecilia's Closet--Creative Arts Guild (CAG) is selling OLPH car magnets ($5) and blue OLPH cinch bags ($8). They are available in the Development Office--see Mrs. Cissy West. St. Cecilia's Closet has plenty of spring clothing. St. Cecilia's Closet is open during school office hours, Monday through Friday, 7:45 to 3:30.
·         Ram Run--SAVE THE DATE! This year's Ram Run will be Saturday, October 19, the opening day of the Chattanooga Market's Oktoberfest celebration. ·         Varsity Track News--Congratulations to the OLPH Varsity Track Teams! Both the boys and girls track teams took home 2nd place in the ISC (independent Schools Conference) Championship track meet! Below are OLPH athletes who had top three finishes:
o   1st place finishes: Adams Robinson--Long Jump; and  Will Bordash--Mile and 800
o   2nd place finishes: Sam Stovall--Shot Put; Rhys Robertson--Discus and 400; Ema San Miguel--100;  and Hannah Ingle--Mile; and Boys 4 x 4 Relay: Rhys Robertson, Adams Robinson, Will Bordash, and Hogan Walker
o   3rd place finishes: Sam Stovall--Discus; Adams Robinson--800; Gabby Gearinger--Shot Put; Rachel-Anne Scalla--800; and Macy Dearing--200
·         OLPH Football Camp--The OLPH Football Skills Clinic and Camp is set for June 10-14, 9:00 A.M. until Noon. Camp cost is $75 and includes camp T-shirt and daily snack. The Clinic will provide top flight football instruction with an emphasis on fundamentals. The camp is open to all rising 2nd - 8th graders. Registration forms will be available soon, and can be returned to the school office.
·         Adult Basketball Open Gym--There will be an open gym for adults every Monday night from 8:00 to 10:00 P.M. This is an opportunity to come out and play a little recreational pick-up basketball with fellow OLPH parents. For more information contact Ted Hackett at hackettj@gmail.com .

STUDENT NEWS: Pictures by Lifetouch, Grandparents' Day, Art Show, Book Fair, Yearbook, Art Camp, Kids in the Kitchen
·         Pictures by Lifetouch--Students in grades PreK through 7th will have individual pictures taken on Monday, April 22; the students will be out of uniform. These pictures do not need to be pre-ordered. Proofs will be sent home with the students two to three weeks after the pictures are taken.  All students were given information from Lifetouch regarding the pictures. The tennis and track teams will have group pictures taken that day, also. The team members are to bring their uniforms, including shoes, for the team picture. Sports team pictures should be prepaid to receive a discount. Extra sports order forms are available in the school office.
·         Grandparents' Day--Grandparents' Day is Friday, April 26, 2013. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 (no lunch, no After Care). Cissy West has emailed parents in each grade level specific details regarding the set up and food items needed for Grandparents' Day, as well as other volunteer opportunities.
·         Art Show--The OLPH Art Show will be held Friday, April 26, in the PLC. Students in grades PreK through 8th may enter two (2) works of art. Two dimensional drawings and paintings MUST BE FRAMED. The art work must have been done this school year either in art class or by the student at home. Last summer's Art Camp art work may also be submitted. There will be three age groups for prizes: PreK through 2nd; 3rd through 5th; and 6th through 8th. Ribbons will be given out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category plus honorable mentions. Art work may be brought in on Monday, April 22, Tuesday, April 23, and Wednesday, April 24. Mrs. Meinert will hang the art work on Wednesday. Art work brought in on Thursday can be displayed but will not be eligible for prizes. Amy Carter, art instructor at Notre Dame High School will be the judge. This will be Mrs. Meinert's last Art Show, so let's make it a great one!
·         Book Fair--Grandparents and Parents, feel like spoiling a terrific child? Give the gift that will last! OLPH Spring Book Fair will be held in the school library April 22-April 25, from 7:45 A.M. to 3:45 P.M. On Friday, April 26 (Grandparents' Day!!), the Book Fair will be open in the PLC.

·         Track News--Elementary Track Team had a great meet this week. Top times were turned in by Nicolas Robinson for the 600 meter and 400 meter races, Charlie Menham for the 50 meter race, and Michael Howard for the 100 meter race. Congratulations to all the runners!
·         Track News--It was a week for big improvements on the OLPH Varsity track team. At Thursday's meet, Nicolas Robinson shaved 20 seconds off his mile time to finish 1st place. Hannah Ingle and Adams Robinson finished 1st in the 800. Brendan Yemm, Adams Robinson, Hogan Walker, and Nicolas Robinson came in first in the boy's 4 x 400 race. Julia Raabe, Rachel-Anne Scalla, Mackenzie Ramey, and Hannah Ingle represented the girl's team well. Sam Stovall, Curtis Dearing, James Schumacher, and Mikel Lingrosso also represented the boy's team well in both field and track events. Up next for the Varsity Rams is the ISC Championship meet Tuesday at GPS.

·         NDHS Volleyball Camp--There are three open spots for the Gold Medal Squared Volleyball Camp to be held at Notre Dame High School July 15-18. ·         Thank you--Thank you to everyone who helped raise $1,300 in this year's "Jump Rope for Heart." The American Heart Association appreciates everyone's donations.
·         Thank you--Thank you to all who participated in the Catholic Relief Services Lenten project, "Rice Bowl." Your generosity provided $2,866.46 to CRS programs around the world, as well as local hunger and poverty alleviation efforts in our diocese.

Applications and information can be picked up in the school office and will be considered if returned to the office prior to April 17, 2013.
·         Chick-fil-A Spirit Night--Tuesday, April 16, from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.m., at the Chick-fil-A located on Gunbarrel Road (in front of Target/Kohl's) or inside Hamilton Place Mall. OLPH School will receive 15% of sales from fliers that OLPH families turn in. Fliers will be sent home with students, or can be picked up in the back of church. You can also ask for one when checking out at Chick-fil-A. Come join us!
·         OLPH Creative Arts Guild will meet on Monday, April 15 at 6:00 P.M. at the Longhorn Restaurant on Brainerd Road. New officers and members are needed for next school year. If you are interested in helping to support and improve the music and arts programs at OLPH School, please join us!

If we don't carry what you need, we probably can order it for you and have it to you within the week. All cards are sold at face value and a percentage of the sales is given as a contribution to OLPH School. ·         Tennis News--The OLPH Rams have been playing well and continually improving. Congratulations to Andrew and Bernard Lisy who won both their single and doubles matches! Go Rams!!
