The virtue for the month of October is "peace" (to calm my fear). "Peace; be still," Jesus said to the stormy sea. The waves, and the disciples in the boat, were instantly calmed, that feeling of calm is freedom from upsetting thoughts or feelings.

THE LIVING ROSARY – The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is Wednesday, October 7^th. On that day, OLPH School students will present “The Living Rosary” at 1:30 PM in the school gym. Please join our students for this prayerful presentation.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS will be held on Thursday, October 8th , at 2:40 PM on the football field in recognition of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi which is Sunday, October 4^th. Fr. Jim will be blessing the animals – all are invited to bring their pets for this special blessing. Please do not bring your pets into the school buildings; we have students with allergies.

OLPH HOMECOMING GAME AND FESTIVITIES--This year's Homecoming game will be held at Notre Dame High School on Friday, October 9. The Rams will play the Knoxville Episcopalian Saints. The schedule is as follows: 5:30--OLPH 9/10 year old football practice; 6:30--Complimentary hamburger/hotdog cookout with drinks, space jump also set up; 7:30 Kick off, with OLPH Brownie troops presenting the flag and national anthem; halftime events include a flying dog frisbee show, as well as a presentation by the OLPH cheerleaders. The evening is courtesy of OLPH School. Please attend for a night of fun for the whole family--bring a great attitude, but leave your money at home. Hope to see you there!

ATTENTION ALL 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS OF OLPH SCHOOL AND ST.JUDE SCHOOL! The OLPH School 8th grade class is sponsoring a dance on Saturday, October 10. The dance will be held in the OLPH gym, from 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Admission is $5 per student. Proceeds will benefit the OLPH 8th grade class trip to Washington, D.C. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there!

THE OLPH SCHOOL CARNIVAL and “Outback Football” Bowl were a success due to the work of many! Thank you to the OLPH Home & School Association for organizing this event and to ALL the parent volunteers who gave of their time so willingly.

HELP EARN 20 FREE BOOKS FOR CLASSROOMS--The maker of "SunnyD" beverages is offering 20 grade-level appropriate books for collecting 20 SunnyD labels. Simply cut off the label from the bottles and turn in to your homeroom teacher or the school office. Extra labels collected will be worth 10 cents apiece, and SunnyD will donate the extra monies to the "Kids in Need Foundation." The due date for labels is October 30th.

OLPH FOOTBALL - The “Outback Football Bowl” was a great success even with one of the three games being cancelled due to weather. The 9/10 year old Rams opened the day with an impressive victory over the "Lightening." Adams Robinson, Sam Stovall, Kevin O'Boyle and Jeremy Harris all had a great game on offense. Danny Hodges, TJ McGee and Curtis Dearing led the defense. The 11/12 year old Rams improved to 4-0 record with an impressive 12-0 victory over McCallie. Joseph Enos, Alex Darras and Ricky Ballard were offensive standouts. Nick Grannan, Packy Mullin and Hugh James were leaders for the defense. Special thanks to the Hamilton Place Outback for providing an outstanding lunch and sponsoring the “Outback Football Bowl.” On Thursday, September 24th the varsity Rams defeated Shenandoah Baptist Academy 20-8 before a large home crowd. Will Mahoney, Tanner Webb, Dean Magat and Brandon Harris led the offense, while Nolan Pawlowski, Thomas McGuire and Chris Knox were solid defensive players. The Rams are now 5-1.

OLPH VOLLEYBALL TEAM – OLPH Volleyball Lady Rams hosted Belvoir Christian on September 21. The A team lost, but exceptional plays were made by Danika Dorris, Madeline Wurm, Grace Signiski, and Mary Rebman. The B team was victorious over Belvoir Christian; Rebekah Burns and Gaby Mullin played a great game. On September 22 the team traveled to Lookout Valley where the A team lost, but Gaby Mullin and Madeline Wurm were once again top notch players. The B team was again in the winner’s column, with all team players doing a great job-Lily, Keri, Hannah, Madeline, Jessica, Gaby, Rebekah, and Nataleigh. Go Lady Rams!

VIRTUS TRAINING – There will be a VIRTUS TRAINING on Monday, October 12^th from 6:30 – 9:30 PM in the OLPH Parish Life Center. Register online at www.virtus.org. VIRTUS is a program for the protection of children and youth, mandated by the Diocese of Knoxville. All parents volunteering or working with children are to complete this program. This includes faculty, staff, substitute teachers, coaches, classroom volunteers, and boy/girl scout leaders.

THE OLPH 8^TH GRADE CHEERLEADERS did a great job planning their 1^st Pep Rally last week in support of the football, volleyball and cross country teams. Special thanks to the cheerleaders: Anna McIntyre, Grace Signiski, Maris Schrage, Marnie Wall, Samantha Penque, Jordan Vial, Lily Jang and Dominique Lee.

“HATS ON DAY” a nationwide event to raise pediatric cancer awareness was sponsored by the OLPH 8^th Grade Class on September 16^th. OLPH students collected $396.50 in support of “Hats on Day.”

PARENT ALERT INFORMATION--"Parent Alert" is our mass notification system designed to send messages to parents via phone and email. All parents/guardians need to update their preference contact information on ParentsWeb in order to be alerted of any emergencies, for instance school closing or sport cancellations. These are the steps for updating the Parent Alert Preferences: 1. Log on to your ParentsWeb account, 2. Click on "Web Forms" on the left side of the screen, 3. Click on "Family Demographic Forms", 4. Click on "Custodial Parent Forms"-all custodial parents should be updated, 5. Scroll to the bottom portion of the Custodial Parent Form to the "Preferences" section, 6. Check "yes" or "no" as appropriate for you (the last four questions in Preferences relates to Parent Alert; the first questions related to grade book and directory information), and 7. Click "save".
