THE GIVING TREE--As in years past, OLPH School, in conjunction with Catholic Charities, has "adopted" families needing assistance during the Christmas season. Last year's "Giving Tree" was a great success. This year OLPH School will provide for eight families in need, including those affected by recent flooding, parents who have lost their jobs, and grandparents raising their grandchildren on a fixed income. The Giving Trees will be set up in the main school building, school library, and 7th/8th grade building. The trees will be decorated with paper ornaments with the wanted/needed items written on them. After selecting an ornament and purchasing the item, please send the unwrapped gift to the student's homeroom teacher with the ornament attached by Monday, December 14th. Please look for the flyer sent home with students for additional information. If you have questions, please contact Kim Thomas or Tracie Mertel. Thank you for sharing your Christmas.
"EVENING WITH SANTA" COMMITTEE IS FORMING. The big visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus is scheduled for Friday, December 4th, at 7:00 P.M. (following the 5:30 P.M. Mass and Knight's of Columbus Fish Fry). Help is needed in planning, preparation and decorating for this fun-filled event. Last year the kids all loved it and was a huge success! Please attend a meeting at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 16th in the cafeteria. Many volunteers are needed to make for light work; we don't want to let Santa and Mrs. Claus down! Sixth through eighth graders are welcome to attend if they are interested in decorating, prop making or helping with games. Questions may be addressed to the Home and School officers at homeandschool@catholicweb.com.
THE 7TH GRADE GEOGRAPHY class has been studying Africa. On Thursday, November 5th, Father Augustine Idra and Ester Ngegwa spoke to the geography classes about life in Africa.
OLPH SCRIP PROGRAM - If you have not yet placed an order, why not start today! You can go online to www.shopwithscrip.com and create an account by clicking on the green “Family Sign-up!” box on the left. Follow the prompts for your information. You will also need the school code, BBEA23BF17413 to designate where your orders will be sent. You may also pick up a Scrip order form from the Home & School office, but remember that it only lists a small number of the cards offered. Check out the Scrip website for more offerings and simply write in what you need if it is not listed. Now, through November 13 Lowe's will give Great Lakes Scrip Center client organizations a chance to win a $1,000, $500 or $250 donation! Every $25 Lowe's gift card you purchase during this period will give OLPH school one entry in the drawing pool. Buying a $100 card will earn four entries. Finally, don’t forget to ask your friends and relatives about buying Scrip. Their purchases can help your bottom line on next year’s tuition bill! If you need assistance getting started, call or email Cissy West @ cisnbill@bellsouth.net or 423-899-4061 (H) or 423-488-4217 (C) and she will be glad to answer any questions.
