STUDENT NEWS: Book Fair, Band Concert, Cooking class
· Book Fair-- OLPH Fall Book Fair will be held in the school library December 3rd through December 9th from 7:45 A.M. to 3:45 P.M. (school days), and during Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 3rd.
· Band Concert--The combined OLPH and St. Jude Bands, grades 5th through 8th, will be playing their annual Christmas Concert at Notre Dame High School on Tuesday, December 6, at 7:00 P.M. The High School concert band, percussion ensemble, and jazz band will also play.
· Cooking class--A Christmas cooking class is being held at Notre Dame High on December 17th for first through fifth graders. For more information contact Mrs. Cindy Storey at storeyc@myndhs.com .
SCHOOL NEWS: CAG Ornament Sale, St. Cecilia's Closet, Advent Giving Tree
· CAG Ornament Sale--The Creative Arts Guild has OLPH Christmas tree ornaments for sale for $1 in the school office. These are a great gift for grandparents and extended family to remind them of the blessing of our OLPH children. Contact Hannah Jones at olphschooloffice@catholicweb.com if you would like to purchase some ornaments.
· St. Cecilia's Closet--There are plenty of uniform items appropriate for the winter season and your growing children. As always, donations are continuously accepted. Remember, 100% of the proceeds from St. Cecilia's Closet are directly funded to the OLPH School children, so everyone benefits! The monies provide art supplies, band/music equipment, Christmas Program supplies, and field trips fees (such as the High Museum in Atlanta, the Chattanooga Theatre Center), and so much more, for all grades.
· Advent Giving Tree--The holiday season is here, and as in past years, OLPH School and Parish have adopted families through Catholic Charities. This year we have seven families that need our help. The Advent "Giving Tree" is set up in Holy Family Hall. There is a sign-up sheet next to the Tree; please sign your name and contact number. Bring unwrapped gifts, with the "Christmas Ornament" attached, to Holy Family Hall by Sunday, December 11, or drop off at the Parish Office on December 12. The gifts provided will bring Christmas cheer to many families in the Chattanooga area, reminding us of the importance of charity. SPORTS: 7/8 Soccer, Basketball teams, Football/ MAKUS parade, "Hoody" sale
· 7/8 Soccer--Congratulations to the 7/8 grade soccer team for having an undefeated season! Tournament play begins Monday, December 5, at OLPH at 4:15, against Oakwood. If OLPH wins this game, they play in the championship game on Friday, December 9, at BCA, time TBD (4:00 or 4:15). If OLPH loses on Monday, they play on Tuesday, December 6, at BCA, time TBD (4:00 or 4:15).
· Basketball teams--OLPH Rams basketball will consist of the following teams: 5th Grade Girls, Varsity Girls, Junior Varsity Boys, and Varsity Boys. Practices may begin the week we return after Thanksgiving Break. Parents will be notified by email as to what team their child is on, and when their team will begin practice. Individual coaches will then provide their teams with their practice and game schedule.
· OLPH Football/MAKUS parade--The OLPH football team will once again represent MAKUS (www.makus.info) at the annual Ooltewah Christmas Parade (3 P.M., Little Debbie Parkway). MAKUS is an organization established 10 years ago after the car accident death of Michael Appleby. Michael was not wearing his seat belt. MAKUS helps raise awareness of the importance of seat belt usage. Only months before his death, Michael was awarded the OLPH Football MVP Award. The team will meet in the Ooltewah Bi-Lo parking lot at 1:15. The parade should end by 4:00 P.M. Additional details available at www.olphfootball.com .
· "Hoody" sale--The OLPH Sports Booster Club still has a few hoodies for sale in the following sizes: Adult XL, Adult L, Adult M, and Youth S. Christmas Blitz Ticket Sales Mardi Gras beads in December?!? All the students were given Mardi Gras beads today to kick-off ChattiGras which will be on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Chattanooga Trade and Convention Center. It will be a Mardi Gras event "Chattanooga style." It will be an evening of dinner, auction, dancing and much more!
Check out the "Fabulous Kays" on YouTube as they will be our music entertainment for the evening! Early ticket sales will start this weekend (December 3rd and 4th) and will cost $45.00 each. Tickets sold after Christmas will cost $50.00 per ticket. We will have a special "Christmas Blitz" basket available for sale after all Masses this weekend. The cost will be $192.00 and will include two tickets, a night for two at the Marriot on February 18, 2012, a bottle of wine and some snacks.....a perfect "date night" Christmas gift.
Supporting this event means supporting our schools: OLPH, St. Jude, and Notre Dame High School, in addition to the Chattanooga Catholic Schools Education Fund. In its first year, your support for the Education Fund helped 146 families.
