For the December virtue of charity, the seventh grade is involved with several projects. They will bring the message of Christ to others, pray for others, and help those who have material needs. The Senior High Youth Group of OLPH Parish, under the guidance of Mrs. Donna Jones, is helping to meet the needs of homeless young people and their families who are finding shelter at the "Room in the Inn". The Inn is full right now, and some of the adults must stay outside. To help them, the seventh grade is collecting small (travel size) containers of shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Boxes are placed throughout the school for collection of these items. Donations of sleeping bags or tents would also be appreciated. On Wednesday, December 19, Mrs. Jones will speak to the seventh grade about the Room in the Inn. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Patti Morrison at 423-715-6415.
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: In the event of inclement weather, OLPH follows the Hamilton County school system for the first day. After the first day, OLPH administrators will make decisions about the opening or closing of OLPH independently of the public schools. All local network television stations will be called as early as possible to indicate the closing of the school. We will post a closing on our website, www.myolph.com. Please note that most television stations will not put school openings on the air. If you do not see OLPH listed as closed, we will be open.
This procedure does not pertain to illness. If Hamilton County Schools close due to illness, we will remain open. OLPH School will be specifically listed as "closed due to illness" if necessary.
Here's another great Christmas gift idea: The Booster Club has OLPH blankets and caps for sale! They are available in the school office for $20 (blanket), and $10 (cap).
Children's Christmas Choir for 5:30 pm Christmas Eve Mass: Children age 8 and older will rehears in the church on December 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Instruments as well as singers are welcome. Please call the church office at 622-7232 if you have any questions.
OLPH Food Drive: Please help the 3rd grade Brownie troop gather food for the OLPH food pantry and Ladies of Charity. The food theme for December is "dinner items" - Hamburger Helper, spaghetti sauce and noodles, pizza mixes, stuffing, canned vegetables, etc. Boxes are located in the entryway of each school building.
Different food themes will be announced each month. Also, a reminder the OLPH Church "Good Samaritan" food drive is the first Sunday of every month.
Hand Chime Choir practice will continue with the same schedule through the rest of this semester. Enjoy listening to the Hand Chime Choir prior to the start of the OLPH Christmas program at Notre Dame High School on Thursday, December 18 (7:00 pm), as well as at the 5:30 pm Christmas Eve Mass at OLPH.
