SCHOOL NEWS: Safety Patrol, 8th Grade Fundraiser, Blessing of the Animals, Spirit Night, Trunk or Treat, and 8th Grade Class Officers
·          Safety Patrol is a parent led volunteer opportunity. Our goal is to keep our kids safe during the peak times of morning drop off. This is a great way to earn those PIP hours and it only takes about 30 minutes a day (including dropping off your student in the cafeteria and picking up and returning safety equipment). Working a full week will earn you 3 PIP hours!  We're using VolunteerSpot to organize parent volunteers for our morning parking lot Safety Patrol. ·         The 8th grade class is selling OLPH Tervis Tumbler cups to raise money for their spring trip.  These cups are very durable and have a lifetime guarantee.  Show your school spirit by purchasing one today.  Order forms were sent home last week. Deadline for orders is Tuesday, September 30th.

·         Feast of St. Francis of Assisi - OLPH School will have the Blessing of the Animals on Friday, October 3rd at 2:20 P.M. on the football field.  Bring your treasured companions and join us for this special blessing.

·         Join us for an evening out at Macaroni Grill on Tuesday, September 30th.  Come by the Gunbarrel Road location between 5 and 9 P.M. and bring the flyer that your child will bring home on Tuesday and Macaroni Grill will donate 10% of your purchase price back to the school.  Drop by the school office and purchase a Scrip Gift Card to pay for your meal to make your support go even a little further.  See you there!

                                                                        Sports News:


The Catholic Rams had an up and down week.  The week began with an impressive 40-12 victory over McCallie.  Nic Robinson, Bennett Brinson and Boston Eberly were standouts.  Late in the week the Middle school team came up short against Normal Park.  Overall, Catholic is 10-3.  A lot of action is in store for Catholic over the next week.  Saturday, September 20th, the 6th grade team takes on Dayton City Schools @ Hixson youth center @ 2:30 P.M.  Monday night football for the middle school team will be against Dayton City Schools @ Dayton with a 7:00 P.M. kickoff.  Thursday, Catholic plays at home against Baylor @ 5:30 P.M.  Catholic plays again Saturday, September 27th @ 12:30 P.M. in the XXIV Choo Choo Bowl against Sale Creek.

The Catholic football program would like to extend special thanks for all who played a role in the Pep Rally.  It was a great event.  The OLPH and ND Bands, OLPH and ND Cheerleaders, the St. Jude Catholic football players and the great student section (way to go phase 2) made for a very special afternoon.  GO RAMS!

·         Diocesan Homecoming Family Day Celebration and Mass. Please join Bishop Stika on Saturday, September 13th for our “Diocesan Homecoming” Family Day Celebration and Closing Mass” on the campus of Knoxville Catholic High School. OLPH will be having the 8:15 A.M. and 5:30 P.M. masses on Saturday. 

·         Parents we need your help when ordering hot lunch.  Mrs. Curtiss starts cooking lunch about 8:45 A.M. and needs to know how many lunches to prepare.  If your child is going to be late and needs a hot lunch, please call in before 9:00 A.M. so, that we can get a more accurate count for lunch. 

·         Ladies Bible Study will begin on Thursday, September 25th at 10:00 A.M. in the PLC with Jeff Cavin's Bible Timeline. "The Story of Salvation." This is a 24 week study of the 14 Narrative books of the Bible.  The study will run weekly until the end of April and will cost about $45.  Nursery will be available in Madonna Hall.  To register: contact Cathy Oliver at catherineoliver@optilink.us or (706)246-6966.

·         The Brownie and Girl Scouts are collecting 2 liters bottles for a water purification project.  If you have any that you would like to donate, please bring them by the school office.  Deadline to turn in bottles is September 19th.

·         Our school will be singing the National Anthem for the NDHS Homecoming game on Friday, September 19th.  The students who are able to participate should be at NDHS at 6:15 P.M. the night of the game.  Please try to attend.  Students are asked to wear red, white and blue.

                                                                        Sports News:


Congratulations to the Middle School Girls Cross Country Team. The results came in and for the first time in OLPH Cross Country history we came in FIRST PLACE!  Way to go girls!

The 2014 Volleyball Season is off to a great start!  The girls have worked hard to improve their skills and have shown lots of growth already.  The girls have built a great defense which has allowed them to fight hard.

             Parents of 3rd through 8th grade interested in Soccer there will be a parent meeting after school on Monday,
            
             September 15th in the gym at 3:45 P.M.  More information will go out at a later date if you are unable to attend.
