Virtue for the Month of February: Love; Love is selfless and giving.  It means giving to others those actions and words you would want given to you.  It means helping or giving to others knowing the action may not be returned to you.  Christian love is shown in our respect, our mercy, and our charity towards others.

Please use extra caution and drive slowly in the parking lots, especially at the archway.  Let's keep our kids safe!  Thank you, Fr. Jim.

SCHOOL NEWS: Makers Club, Volunteer Opportunities, Safety Patrol, Yearbook PDA's, Sugar and Spice, Rice Bowl, and Tuition Assistance Applications

·        The annual big project for Makers Club for this year is a 10 to 20 minute movie.  We will film, edit and show our movie as well as make it available for download and on YouTube.  This project is a long and challenging one which will have many parts over the next few months:
o   February: principal photography- Days and times will be announced as we near.  We will need to film some days other than just Tuesdays.  Meeting on 24th plus other days and times as needed.
o   March:  Finish photography and start editing.  This is open to 5th graders and up who participated in the pre-production team. Meetings the 10th 17th and 24th there is no meeting on the 31st. There are at least two days when we plan to be filming away from the school where a parent or guardian will need to be present.  There are days when we will be filming group scenes where we will need more than just our regular cast.
o   More details will come out about that later.  If you are interested please fill out this form http://goo.gl/forms/I2FIoYJj46.
·        Volunteer opportunities are now just a few clicks away. If you would like to see how you can help out at OLPH School and earn your PIP hours, start with our website www.myolph.com (make sure you have saved that as a favorite on your browser’s tool bar!). From there you can hover over the “Parent Resources” tab and then click on the “Parent Involvement Program” in the drop down list. There is a link just below the title for the “OLPH Volunteer sign-up page” that will take you to our group page on Volunteer Spot group page. Once you find the spot you want to sign up for, you only need to enter your email address – you do not need to create an account. The link at the bottom of the PIP page on the website will allow you to see when the next Virtus training will be scheduled.
·        Need PIP hours?  We need volunteers for the Safety Patrol!  We have eliminated the position by kindergarten so we only need a crossing guard.  Don't like the cold mornings?  Sign up for April or May.  Please go online and sign up right away. http://vols.pt/4cZ5vU.
·        The yearbook is one of our favorite school traditions.  Students anticipate reliving the school year through photos, student portraits and event highlights.  Support our school and recognize your student--post a Personal Display of Affection (PDA) ad in the OLPH yearbook! The deadline for ordering a PDA is March 31st.  It is $25 for ¼ page, $50 for ½ page and $100 for a whole page.
·        The “Sugar and Spice Brunch” is back on the calendar for springtime!  Save the date for Saturday, April 25th from 10 a.m. - 12:30 pm.  Women of all ages gather to share faith, food, and fun while building virtue in our community! This exciting event includes lovely decorated tables where you will be served brunch with a speaker, raffle, music, and door prizes.  More info will follow soon.  Planning Committee will meet this coming week on Thursday, February 26th at 2 p.m. in the OLPH Church Office.  If you would like to be on the Planning Committee, contact Cathy Oliver at catherineoliver@optilink.us or 706-264-6966 whether you can attend the 2/26 meeting or not.
·        Our 8th grade class will lead the school in CRS, Operation Rice Bowl.  We use this of Lent to grow closer to God, through prayer, fasting and almsgiving.  This year, our school will use CRS Rice Bowl, a faith in-action program that helps families experience Lenten spirituality in living solidarity with people in need around the world.  Your child will receive a cardboard CRS Rice Bowl and a Lenten calendar, which contains a prayer of reflection for you to say as a family each day throughout Lent.  Place you child's CRS Rice Bowl on your dinner table or somewhere visible in your home.  Hang the Lenten calendar on the refrigerator and read today's reflection as a family.
·        Parents please remember that Tuition Assistance Applications are due by March 6th.  If you have any questions, contact, Chris Curtis at NDHS 423-624-4618.
