Summer AR testing will be held every other Wednesday beginning June 10th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the computer lab. The dates are June 10, June 24, July 8, and July 22. The last day for summer AR testing will be on Registration Day, Thursday, August 6, from 7:30 to Noon.

B.V.M. Awards for 2008-2009 school year
Each year a student from each grade at OLPH School receives the Sisters of Charity, B.V.M. Christian Living Award. The students chosen to receive this award show a love of God and the virtues of the Blessed Mother to those in the community and to all of God's people. The recipients for this year are:

The 5th grade students will gather the cans from each building on Thursdays until May 21st; boxes will be located in each school building. The money earned from recycling the cans will go to Doug Owen, OLPH seminarian. The Knights of Columbus will then donate a tree on behalf of the 5th grade class for their effort in this Earth Day fundraiser.

The transition meeting for 7th grade parents (next year's 8th graders), will be held Monday, May 11 in Mrs. Carole Miller's classroom. Parents may attend one of two meetings; 3:45 or 5:30.

You can also give a monetary donation to help purchase items for the festival. Donations need to be turned in by Monday, May 11th. OLPH will receive 20 % of sales from fliers that OLPH families turn in. The teacher that receives the most fliers turned in will receive a Chick-Fil-A nugget tray for their classroom. Each student will be given a "Spirit Night Coupon" - some coupons may have the date of April 23 on them, but they will accept them for May 14. OLPH received a check for $175.00 for the "Spirit Night" last week. Invite your family and friends!

TRANSITION DAYS at OLPH School are being scheduled for students and parents. On Monday, May 4th, rising 5th grade students will have a transition day (half-day) in St. Patrick's Hall during the school day. On Tuesday, May 5th, rising 5th grade parents will have their meeting with the 5th grade teachers in St. Patrick's Hall from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Please make plans to attend the transition days - it will help prepare both students and parents for the upcoming school year and provide the opportunity for parents to meet the teachers and ask questions.

Grandparent's Day will be celebrated on Friday, May 8th starting with the celebration of the Mass at 8:15 AM followed by a continental breakfast and entertainment by the students in the school gym. Grandparents will be able to view the Art Show and Book Fair in the PLC, and visit the classrooms.

Grandparents and parents, feel like spoiling a terrific child? Give the gift that will last. OLPH Spring Book Fair will be held in the school library during the week of May 4-7, from 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, and 9:00 to Noon on Friday, May 8th.

The Annual OLPH Spring Art Show will be Friday, May 8, on Grandparent's Day. Students in all grades are eligible to enter. Art work must have been done this school year and must be framed. Students may enter 2 works of art. Clay pieces may also be entered. Art work should be submitted to Mrs. Meinert by Monday, May 4.

Scout news: Last weekend, thirteen OLPH Cub Scouts and three Boy Scouts, along with several moms and dads, camped out at Chickamauga Battlefield. Some of the boys took a hike and climbed Wilder Tower, while others visited the museum and its collection of Civil War artifacts. At night the boys roasted marshmallows over the campfire. While packing up to leave Sunday morning, a pair of Confederate soldiers emerged from the woods and spoke to the boys about the Battle of Chickamauga. Parents - if this sounds like something your son would enjoy, please call Bill West at 899-4061 for more information about the Scout program.

The OLPH Band students (5th-8th graders) recently performed at the NDHS Spring Band Concert with the St. Jude Junior High Band. They gave a great performance!

Volunteers are need for Vacation Bible School: The theme for VBS this year is "Power Lab". It is an exciting, scripture-based program that is "fizzing" with fun where kids will discover Jesus' miraculous power. DATE: June 29-July3; TIME: 9:00 AM to Noon; AGES: Pre K (4 yr.old)-rising 5th grade students. Gas prices getting you down? There is a parent-organized bus from Cleveland, TN that picks up in Cleveland and in Ooltewah.
