The virtue for the month of March is "kindness" (for all I meet). Jesus came with a new commandment, "Love one another as God loves you." This love we have from God is shown to others through our kindness. As we treat others at home and school kindly, we obey God's command. The virtue for the month of April is "joy" (to share a smile). As believers in Christ, we have the gift of true joy--a feeling of complete happiness that comes from knowing that our God loves us, that we belong to a family of believers, and that our heavenly home awaits.

Please attend Mass this week with your Parish Priest. A Lenten Reflection: Give up worry--trust in God. Give up discouragement--be full of hope. Give up bitterness--turn to forgiveness.

The virtue for the month of March is "kindness" (for all I meet). Jesus came with a new commandment, "Love one another as God loves you." This love we have from God is shown to others through our kindness. As we treat others at home and school kindly, we obey God's command.

The Parent Alert notification system has proven to be very successful in informing parents and guardians of school closing due to inclement weather. If unexpected bad weather should arise during the day, please be on the lookout for a Parent Alert; therefore, it is not necessary to call the school office to inquire about the possibility of closing. The alert is also used to notify parents of changes in athletic events, such as the cancellation of an outdoor game due to rain (these alerts are sent only to those parents who have a student participating in a particular sport). If you have any questions regarding the Parent Alert system, please contact Hannah Jones at 423-622-1481 or olphschooloffice@catholicweb.com.

Our sister parish in Haiti is in desperate need of children's shoes. The parish has recently taken in 200 new children, and shoes of all sizes are needed, from infant to teenager. If you have any questions, please call Joann Kramer at 423-313-4347. Thank you!

NCEA/ACRE stands for "National Catholic Education Association Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education." Be sure the students are well rested and have eaten a nutritional breakfast.

The Math/Science Activity Fest was a huge success! Thank you to Mrs. Angel Melton and Mrs. Lee Thomas for working in conjunction with the Creative Discovery Museum. Many parents and students enjoyed activities which included cell wall model making, sugar testing, examining various cells with Dino-microscopes, building a molecule, carbon cycle, process food station, energy station, planting a seed, and a station on being a scientist. The activities were educational and fun for all.

The Kindergartners celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss in style! On March 2nd, The Cat in the Hat and his Cat Cousin 1, came to the classrooms for a day of work and fun! With the help of Things 1 and 2, there was plenty of rhyming and things to do! During this special week the Kindergartners enjoyed a snack of Green Eggs and Ham and a Dr. Seuss reading activity with their 8th grade buddies. We are thankful that Dr. Seuss has made reading so much fun!

Craniofacial Camp Food Drive--The 7th graders are holding a food drive for the Craniofacial Foundation Family Camp. The food drive will take place March 8-March 26. The camp started 10 years ago as a "Gold Award" Girl Scout project of Heather Henderson, who is a graduate of OLPH School and Notre Dame High School. The children who attend the camp have had some type of facial reconstructive surgery. Each year the children and their families spend a weekend camping. The camp gives parents the opportunity to share and learn from each other while their children play without stares or restrictions. They canoe, horseback ride, play games, participate in archery, play Bingo and eat! The camp is free to participants; and therefore, relies entirely on donations and community service to operate. The camp director, Donna Henderson, has requested the donation of the following items. Each grade level is asked to bring these items:

  • Kindergarten--juice/drink boxes
  • 1st grade--Little Debbie snack cakes
  • 2nd grade--pudding in individual serving packs
  • 3rd grade--applesauce in individual serving packs

  • Items can be placed in the boxes in the homerooms or Holy Family Hall by Friday, March 26. Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Megan Monahan at mmonahan@catholicweb.com or to a seventh grader. Any donation is appreciated. Thank you so much for your generosity and your continued support of our community.
