Lifetouch portrait proofs were sent home with students on Thursday, September 30. Purchasing instructions are included on the order form; please send the order form and payment (check made payable to “Lifetouch”) in the envelope provided by Lifetouch. If you do not want to purchase the pictures, the proofs are to be returned to school. Please send in the payment or returned picture proof to your child’s homeroom teacher by Tuesday, October 12. Grounds Beautification Work Day will be Saturday, October 2, from 9 A.M. to Noon. The OLPH Home and School Association Grounds Keeping Committee will plant fall flowers and lay mulch, as well as general upkeep. Bring your family and your garden gloves for a beautiful fall morning serving OLPH School and Church. This is a great way to earn PIP hours.

Chick-fil-A fundraiser for 8th grade: The 8th graders will be selling chicken biscuits ($2.50 per sandwich) and juice boxes (50 cents per box), on the drop-off ramp on Monday, October 4, from 7 to 7:45 A.M. The last fundraiser sold out quickly, so more chicken biscuits have been ordered! The 8th graders will use the money raised to help fund their spring trip to Tybee Island.

“Blessing of the animals” will take place Monday, October 4, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. Parents/Guardians are invited to bring their family pet(s) to the OLPH football field at 2:40 for a special blessing by the priests. Remember to have your pet on a leash or in a cage, and for the safety and well being of those students allergic to animals, please do not bring the pets into the school buildings. All OLPH students will attend the Blessing of the Animals.

The Living Rosary will take place Friday, October 8, at 2:40, in the OLPH School gym. Ten students from each grade level, 1st through 8th, will recite the prayers of the Rosary. All OLPH students will attend and are asked to bring their rosary to school for this special time of prayer. Parents, Guardians, and Parishioners are welcome to attend.

Annual speech and hearing screenings will be available at OLPH School Friday, October 15th. According to good health practices and state guidelines, every student must have a speech and hearing evaluation at least once while in grades Kindergarten through second. A teacher may recommend an evaluation if he or she sees a need, and will provide a form for the parent/guardian to fill out. Payment is to accompany the completed form. The Jeff Miller Golf Tournament will be Saturday, October 16, at WindStone Golf Club. Jeff is a graduate of OLPH School Class of 1987 and Notre Dame High School Class of 1991. Jeff’s mother, Carole Miller, taught at OLPH School for 29 years. Jeff was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer and will be receiving radiation and chemotherapy treatments. The golf tournament is being held to offset Jeff’s medical expenses.Tee Time is 8:00 A.M. or 1:00 P.M. Shotgun starts. Registration forms are in the OLPH School office and NDHS office. Entry fee is $100.00 per player and includes breakfast from Chick-fil-A, lunch from Wally’s Restaurant, soft drinks, and prizes. If you can’t be at the tournament there are two other options to help support Jeff--a tee sign can be purchased for $100.00 with a business logo or message on the sign, or a monetary donation may be made . Mark your calendars for an upcoming VITRUS training: Sunday, October 17th, at the OLPH Parish Life Center, 3:30 P.M. This training will be available in Spanish. “VIRTUS” is a program for the protection of children and youth. The VIRTUS training is mandated by the Diocese of Knoxville for all adults volunteering or working with children. This includes coaches, substitute teachers, and classroom volunteers. Oktoberfest 2010 will be at The Chattanooga Market October 23rd and 24th.
  • The activities begin with the OLPH Ram Run, which will consist of a 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, October 23rd at 9:00 A.M. Ram Run registration forms are in the back of OLPH Church or can be downloaded from www.myolph.com.
  • The festivities include live music, German food (the famous OLPH Bratwurst booth will again be open), and handcrafted art from local vendors.
  • Bring your families and friends and join in this celebration at the Chattanooga Market inside the Tennessee Pavilion located at 1826 Carter Street.
Ram Run Family Discount:
  • For a family of four or more that would like to participate in the Ram Run the cost is $45.00. Each participating family member registering for the 5K Race or the 1 mile Fun Run/Walk MUST have a registration form filled out completely. Extra forms are available as stated above. There is a discounted fee if paid before October 4.

The Outback Choo Choo Bowl (XXI) is set for Saturday, September 25. Kick-off time is noon. The OLPH Rams will play the St. Edward Saints who are the current Nashville Catholic League champions. The younger football team plays at 9:00 A.M. Hamilton Place Outback Steakhouse will be cooking out in front of the PLC, providing a full steak and chicken lunch from 11:30 to 1:30. Salads, bread, drinks, etc., are included. Tickets for the game and Outback lunch are available for $20 per adult, $10 per child. Please see any OLPH football player or cheerleader to obtain your ticket(s); tickets will also be sold at the gate. There will be face painting tattoos, a choo choo inflatable, spirit items ( including the awesome new OLPH football t-shsirt). Come and cheer on the undefeated OLPH Rams as they take on this tough opponent. Go Rams!!

Soccer practice for 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade boys and girls (co-ed team) begins Monday, September 27. 7th and 8th grade players meet Coach Close in the gym at 3:30. 5th and 6th grade players meet Coach Wally Burt on the soccer/football field at 6:00. Please bring cleats, shin guards, and a water bottle. If a student is currently playing football or volleyball, do not attend soccer practice until the football or volleyball season is over, but do tell Coach Close if you intend on playing soccer.

Knights of Columbus Council #8576 is sponsoring the local Youth Soccer Challenge on Saturday, September 25th, at 2:30 P.M., at the St. Jude School’s soccer field during the St. Jude Church picnic. All boys and girls 10-14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Winners will progress through local, district, and state competitions. The competition involves penalty kicks with designated scoring zones based on accuracy. Appropriate footwear should be worn. Participants are required to have signed parental consent which is available at registration. Please note that registration closes at 3:00. Parents/Guardians, The OLPH Family/Student Directory, the “Buzz Book”, was sent home on Friday, September 17, with the youngest student to those families who have paid the Home and School dues. Student Pictures will be taken Wednesday, September 22. Lifetouch will begin with group (homeroom) and student individual pictures at 8:15 A.M. All students are to wear their OLPH School uniforms. Athletes participating in fall sports (cross country, football, football cheerleading, volleyball) need to bring their sports uniforms for group pictures, and individual pictures. 8th graders need to bring their “graduation” gowns for their group picture. Payment information is as follows:

  • Homeroom group pictures (K-7th): Picture envelopes were sent home with each student to be pre-ordered and pre-paid. The “Early Bird Special” price of the homeroom group picture is $13.00, with checks made payable to Lifetouch.
  • Group (in “graduation” gown) picture for 8th graders:The “Early Bird Special” rate is $13.00, pre-ordered and pre-paid with checks made payable to Lifetouch.
  • Individual portraits for all students in grades K-8 will be taken. These pictures are used in the yearbook. Approximately 3 weeks after the portraits are taken, each student will receive a color proof, price list and order envelope. These order forms and payments will be returned to the homeroom teacher.
  • Sports pictures are to be pre-ordered and pre-paid, with checks made payable to Lifetouch. Fall sports athletes are to bring their uniforms to school that day. This includes cross country, football, football cheerleading, and volleyball.

8th grade Chick-fil-A fundraiser will be Monday, September 20, from 7:00 A.M. to 7:45 A.M. Chicken biscuits ($2.50 each) and juice boxes (50 cents each) will be sold on the drop-off ramp to raise funds for the 8th graders trip to Tybee Island in the spring. Please help support our 8th graders with their class trip.

Attention Junior High students! A back-to-school dance will be held at OLPH School gym on Saturday, September 18, from 7 P.M. to 10 P.M., featuring DJ Terry D. All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade OLPH School students are invited to attend. The cost is $5.00 per student. Light snacks will be served, and smoothies will be sold. Hope to see you there!

The Outback Choo Choo Bowl (XXI) is set for Saturday, September 25. Kick-off time is noon. The OLPH Rams will play the St. Edward Saints who are the current Nashville Catholic League champions. Hamilton Place Outback Steakhouse will be cooking out in front of the PLC, providing a full steak and chicken lunch from 11:30 to 1:30. Salads, bread, drinks, etc., are included. Tickets for the game and Outback lunch are available for $20 per adult, $10 per child. Please see any OLPH football player or cheerleader to obtain your ticket(s). Come and cheer on the undefeated OLPH Rams as they take on this tough opponent. Go Rams!!

Knights of Columbus Council #8576 is sponsoring the local Youth Soccer Challenge on Saturday, September 25th, at 2:30 P.M., at the St. Jude School’s soccer field during the St. Jude Church picnic. All boys and girls 10-14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Winners will progress through local, district, and state competitions. The competition involves penalty kicks with designated scoring zones based on accuracy. Appropriate footwear should be worn. Participants are required to have signed parental consent which is available at registration. Please note that registration closes at 3:00.
