STUDENT NEWS: Student Recognitions, Jump Rope for Heart, ParentsWeb, Family Honor

· Student Recognition--Congratulations to the following OLPH students who recently competed with their local swim teams in the District Southeastern Meet: James Post (6th grade), Chase Post (3rd grade), Kathleen Hillman (4th grade), and John Hillman (6th grade).The swimmers performed their personal best times. In addition, John Hillman qualified for Southeastern time in the 50 breast stroke. Good jobs, swimmers!!

· Student Recognition--Congratulations to bowler CJ Petrin, 3rd grader at OLPH, who recently won 1st place in the Individual All Events of the Chattanooga City Youth Bowling Tournament. CJ's team finished first in the team division. CJ will also be bowling in the state tournament in Knoxville in April, as well as traveling throughout the Southeast United States competing in various bowling tournaments. Good job, CJ!!

· Jump Rope for Heart--The American Heart Association is once again sponsoring "Jump Rope for Heart," an educational and fun way to learn about the heart and raise money for the organization. Students in grades PreK through 8th have been jumping rope during their physical education ("gym") classes. All students were given a form explaining the donation process and participation prizes. Donations need to be turned in to Coach Close or the school office by March 1. Checks are made payable to American Heart Association. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

· Family Honor (mark your calendars)--All 8th grade families in the Chattanooga Deanery are invited to participate in the Family Honor Program on March 9 and 10, 2012, which will be held in the PLC at OLPH Parish. The mission of Family Honor is to provide opportunities for parents and children to learn to communicate effectively on important life values, with the special focus on the truth and goodness of human sexuality and the virtue of chastity. It is presented in a fun and interactive format. You will walk away with a new perspective on the big questions, "Who am I?" and "What is life for?" Space is limited to 40 families so get your registration forms and $25.00 in early to reserve your spot for the Family Honor Program. · Tuition Assistance--The deadline for applying for tuition assistance for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year is Friday, March 2. All questions are to be addressed to Therese Hughes at Notre Dame High School, 423-624-4618, extension 1026.

· Nature's Place work day--Volunteers are needed to help complete projects at Nature's Place, Saturday, February 25, from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Please bring drills, screw drivers, hammers, shovels, etc. If you have any questions please contact Matt Stovall at matt.stovall@bwsc.net or call 423-667-4762.

· Lent Fish Fry--The Knights of Columbus council 6099 will be hosting Fish Frys five Friday evenings during Lent at 6:00 P.M. in the PLC (after the 5:30 Stations of the Cross). Proceeds will be split between the OLPH Home and School Association and the K of C Wheelchair Foundation. Cost is $6 per plate; take-out will be available. To encourage school families to participate, we will be sending "tickets" home during the week with your child. Mark your family name and the grades of your children, and bring with you to the dinner. The grade with the most participation during the five Fridays will receive an ice cream party after Easter! Come out and enjoy the fellowship with your parish family. The following classes are requested to provide desserts for the dinners. The homeroom parents will be in touch during the assigned week:

For several years our school has provided a yearbook to preserve school memories. Little Rams Basketball Clinic

· Basketball players, please return your clean uniforms, in a plastic bag with your name on it, to Coach Close.

· Basketball Tournament results--Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Basketball team for their 50-22 victory over Boyd Buchanan, making the OLPH Rams the ISC Champions, as well as season champions!! Several players were voted on to the Boys All-Conference Team--Addison Hutton, Alex Darras, and Tyler Enos, and Ricky Ballard was named "Most Valuable Player." Representing OLPH on the Girls All-Conference Team is Allison Hoffer. Thank you to all of the Basketball Rams Teams players and coaches for their hard work and dedication to OLPH Athletics this school year. The Cheerleaders did an amazing job leading our fans with their cheers and great spirit! Go Rams!!

· Track practice begins--The first track practice will be Tuesday, February 28, from 3:30 to 4:30. Athletes should bring a water bottle, running shoes, and the proper attire (weather appropriate). At 4:30 there will be a short meeting for parents. We hope everyone can attend.

· Little Rams Basketball Clinic--OLPH Booster Club is sponsoring a basketball skills clinic for 1st through 4th graders of OLPH School and local parishes. The clinic will be held these remaining Saturday mornings: Feb. 25, and March 3; 8:30 to 9:45 for 1st and 2nd graders, and 10:00 to 11:15 for 3rd and 4th graders. The cost is $45 per student, which covers the four clinics and a t-shirt. Weekly participation is available for $14 per session, with the fee payable that day. Registration forms were sent home with OLPH School students; the form is also available on the school website, www.myolph.com . Questions may be addressed to the OLPH School Office, 423-622-1481. The clinic is now also open to Kindergarten students.

· Student Recognition--Congratulations to Ian Agbannaoag, a student in the second grade at OLPH. Ian recently competed at the Rising Star Regional Dance Competition in Nashville. He won first place in several categories: tap routine, open--2 or more styles of dance, and soloist. Great job and good luck in your upcoming competitions, Ian!

· Spelling Bee--Thank you to Adams Robinson and Emalyn San Miguel for representing OLPH at the "Zone" Spelling Bee. Although they did not advance to the finals, we are proud of their performances!

· Chattanooga Area Catholic Schools Band Boosters (CACSBB)--The Chattanooga Area Catholic Schools Band Boosters will have a meeting Tuesday, February 21 at 5:30 P.M. in the teacher's lounge at Notre Dame High School. SCHOOL NEWS: St. Cecilia's Closet, Yearbook Ads, Box Tops, Yearbook PDA's, Applications for 2012-2013, Open House, ChattiGras, Ladies Bible Study

· St. Cecilia's Closet--When you start cleaning closets, St. Cecilia's Closet is in need of six inch CLEAR PLASTIC skirt hangers. If you have any of this size please send them to the school office.

· Yearbook Ads--Are you a local business owner, or do you know a local business owner who would benefit from an ad in the OLPH yearbook? We need your support. For several years our school has provided a yearbook to preserve school memories. To help create a yearbook at a price that all families can afford, we count on support from local businesses through advertising. Ads range in price from $15 for business card size to $100 for a full pate. · Box Tops--Please send in your Box Tops by February 23. If we collect 500 Box Tops, we will have reached our goal for the year of 2500!!!!! Be sure to write your student's homeroom teacher on the envelope/baggie of Box Tops to ensure proper credit.

· Yearbook PDA's--The Yearbook Committee is now taking orders for Public Display of Affection (PDA) ads for the yearbook. Commemorate your special student(s) with an ad in the yearbook. What better way to remember kindergarten year, First Communion, and other school events? Ads range in price from $15 for 1/8 of a page to $100 for a full page ad. · Applications for the 2012-2013--OLPH School is accepting applications for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year for students in grades Pre-K through 8th. · ChattiGras--Ticket sales for Mardi Gras "Chattanooga Style" on Saturday, February 18, 2012 will end on Tuesday, February 14th. Ticket cost is $50.00 per person and includes dinner, interactive and silent auction, casino and the band "Right to Party." Chatti Gras will be at the Chattanooga Trade and Convention Center from 7:30 - 11:30 P.M. You can purchase tickets in the school office, parish office, development office or online at www.ourccs.com. It is NOT too late to sponsor a table or to donate an auction item. · Ladies Bible Study--OLPH Ladies Bible Study is beginning a new study for Lent, "Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving: Spiritual Practices that Bring Us Closer to God", by Kevin Perrotta. The study begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22, at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Family Hall. The cost is $10 per person. Join us as we learn why we undertake the practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, and how they can transform us to become more like the persons that God has created us to be. SPORTS: Little Rams Basketball Clinic

· Little Rams Basketball Clinic--OLPH Booster Club is sponsoring a basketball skills clinic for 1st through 4th graders of OLPH School and local parishes. The clinic will be held the following Saturday mornings: Feb. 11, 18, 25, and March 3; 8:30 to 9:45 for 1st and 2nd graders, and 10:00 to 11:15 for 3rd and 4th graders. The cost is $45 per student, which covers the four clinics and a t-shirt. Weekly participation is available for $14 per session, with the fee payable that day. Registration forms were sent home with OLPH School students; the form is also available on the school website, www.myolph.com . Questions may be addressed to the OLPH School Office, 423-622-1481. The clinic is now also open to Kindergarten students.
