STUDENT NEWS: Student Recognition, Art Show Winners, Honor Roll, Presidential Awards
·         Student Recognition-- Megan Bordash (5th grader) and Caitlin O'Brien (6th grader) played on the East Ridge Express soccer team which recently won the Championship for U11 girls team in the North Atlanta Soccer Association Adidas Cup and College Showcase. Will Bordash and Luke Eckler, both 6th graders, played on East Ridge's U13 boys soccer team, which had an undefeated season. Congratulations, soccer players!!

·         Vacation Bible School-- VBS (Vacation Bible School)--"The Vatican Express" VBS is being planned for two evenings and one Saturday morning, May 31-June 2. Thursday and Friday sessions will start at 6:00 P.M., and Saturday will be a 3½ hour session, beginning at 9:00 A.M. "The Vatican Express" focuses on St. Peter, the Pope and the Vatican, and has fun stops such as The Pontificate Music Academy, The Vatican Gardens, and Michelangelo's Loft. Volunteers are needed to help make this a successful event for the kids--four teachers and four assistants. ·         Stepping up to Kindergarten--Is your child ready for Kindergarten? Get a head start with this "Stepping-Up" camp. The theme for the week is Summer Fun! This camp will provide many hands-on classroom experiences as an introduction to the kindergarten environment. The children will enjoy recess and snack too! WOW! Who could imagine that school could be this much fun!!!!  Applications are available in the school and church offices or call 423-622-7232.

·         Spring Portraits--Lifetouch has delivered the spring portrait packages and they were sent home with the students (PreK through 7th only) on Thursday or Friday. Each package contains ordering instructions; please note that any unwanted portraits are returned to the school--PreK and Kindergarten must return their orders with payments and/or unwanted portraits by Wednesday, May 16th and 1st through 7th graders must return theirs by Monday, May 21st. Sports: Field Day, Booster Club Officers, Booster Club Fund Drive
·         Field Day--Field Day will be held Monday, May 21st for 1st through 7th graders, which is their last day of school. Outdoor games will be held that morning which will include events such as obstacle course, basketball hot shot, football throw, 50 yard dash, Frisbee throw, and jump rope, to name just a few. PIP hours may be earned by helping with the Field Day activities, and/or the Booster Club concession stand and cookout held on Field Day. Camp will be held June 11-15, 9:00 A.M. to Noon, conducted by Angie Carson, OLPH School Music Teacher.  The camp is for rising 1st through 8th graders; the cost is $90 which includes a late morning snack and drink. Campers will be working on keyboards learning the beginning aspects of playing the piano. ·         B.V.M. Christian Living Awards--The Sisters of Charity, Blessed Virgin Mary Award, was established in 2004 in honor of this community of Sisters. Students from each grade are chosen each year to receive this award. The students selected exemplify faithfulness and love of God to those in the community and to all God's people. SCHOOL NEWS:  OLPH Yearbook, Ram Run 2012, PreK Open House, St. Cecilia's Closet,
 Applications for 2012-2013
·         OLPH Yearbook--Orders are now being taken for the 2011-2012 school year OLPH Yearbook. The cost of the yearbook is $30 if paid before May 18, and $35 if paid after May 18. Yearbooks are expected to be delivered in time for Registration Day, Wednesday, August 8, 2012. Order forms are available in the school office.
·         Ram Run 2012--We're gearing up for this year's Ram run on October 13. As you know, this is the school's biggest fundraiser, and last year we raised close to $9,000. This year we're hoping to exceed $10,000, but we need your help! If you own a business or work for a company that might be interested in being a sponsor this year, please email Dawn McAbee at dvscavett@yahoo.com for details on how to participate.
·         PreK Open House--On Sunday, May 20th, after the 10:00 A.M. Mass, there will be an Open House for prospective families who are interested in the OLPH PreK (4 year old) Program. Jessica Heffern, PreK teacher, will be available to talk about the program, give a tour, and answer questions. ·         St. Cecilia's Closet--Parents/Guardians, as you are cleaning out your children's closets, please remember to donate your gently used OLPH School uniforms to St. Cecilia's Closet. The clothing may be dropped off at the school office, or in Holy Family Hall, in the basket labeled "St. Cecilia's Closet donations."  8th grade parents, if this is your last child at OLPH, please donate your uniforms! Thank you.
·         Applications for the 2012-2013--OLPH School is accepting applications for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year for students in grades PreK (4 year old) through 8th. OLPH School has been educating students since 1937. We believe in educating minds, enlightening souls, and strengthening bodies. Sports: Tennis News, Field Day, Booster Club Officers
·         Tennis News-- The OLPH tennis teams had a phenomenal season! The boys had 7 players on their team; the girls, 12. Six players and two alternates from each team competed in the ISC tournament, held at Champions Club in Chattanooga.  The Girls Team advanced to the finals after defeating Berean and Christian Heritage School. The final matches were against CAM; after the singles matches, OLPH was winning, 4 - 2. We put the double matches on, and had to get one match and be the winners at 5! But we lost two doubles matches, so it came down to the #1 doubles… our girls were behind 4 - 7, but came back winning 5 games to win 9 - 7! The OLPH Girls Tennis Team is the ISC Champion!! The Boys Team advanced to the semifinals after defeating Boyd Buchanan. We played St. Jude and after 6 matches were tied 3 - 3. We played 3 doubles matches having to win 2 of the 3 to reach the 5 points to win! The boys played their hearts out but came up short; St. Jude won, 5 - 4. Coach Mr. Haywood, Coach Mrs. Haywood and Coach Mr. McInturff were so pleased with the effort the Rams Boys Tennis Team put forth. They were honorable on and the court!
·         Field Day--Field Day will be held Monday, May 21st for 1st through 7th graders, which is their last day of school. Outdoor games will be held that morning  which will include events such as obstacle course, basketball hot shot, football throw, 50 yard dash, Frisbee throw, and jump rope, to name just a few. Parents and Guardians of 1st through 7th graders, we need your help!! PIP hours may be earned by helping with the Field Day activities, and/or the Booster Club concession stand and cookout held on Field Day. ·         Booster Club Officers--The Booster Club Officers for the 2012-2013 school year have been chosen! The Booster Club takes a sincere interest in supporting OLPH Athletics. Summer Camp Information: A formal Summer Camp brochure will not be published.
 The following camps are being planned at OLPH School for the summer, 2012:
·         Art Camp--Mrs. Meinert will be conducting Summer Art Camps during the following times:
o   Rising 3rd-5th graders, July 2 - 6, 9:00 A.M. to Noon, $100 per student
o   Rising 6th-8th graders, July 9 - 13, 9:00 A.M. to Noon, $100 per student

·         Football--The OLPH Football Camp and Skills Clinic is set for June 11-15, 9:00 A.M. to Noon. The camp is for rising 2nd through 8th graders. Camp includes top flight football instruction and life skill lessons. Camp shirt and daily snack included. Registration forms available from the school office.
·         Music and More!--Are you interested in learning beginning keyboarding and basic music skills? This is the camp for you! Music and More! Camp will be held June 11-15, 9:00 A.M. to Noon, conducted by Angie Carson, OLPH School Music Teacher.  The camp is for rising 1st through 8th graders; the cost is $90 which includes a late morning snack and drink. Campers will be working on keyboards learning the beginning aspects of playing the piano. ·         Stepping up to Kindergarten--Is your child ready for Kindergarten? Get a head start with this "Stepping-Up" camp. The theme for the week is Summer Fun! Children will enjoy crafts, language arts, math, religion, science, and social studies activities. This camp will provide many hands-on classroom experiences as an introduction to the kindergarten environment. The children will enjoy recess and snack too! WOW! Who could imagine that school could be this much fun!!!!  Applications are available in the school and church offices or call 423-622-7232.

·         Volleyball--Join Mrs. Nicole Tinney for volleyball camp during the week of July 23rd. Camp will cover fundamental skills as well as team strategies and sportsmanship. Participants will leave camp with a greater understanding of how the game is played and how each skill impacts the game. All players should bring a water bottle and knee pads.
