STUDENT NEWS:
Catholic Schools Week, Middle School Dance, K of C Free Throw Contest,
Evening at
Noodles, Chick-fil-A Spirit Night
·
Catholic
Schools Week will kick off on Sunday, January 27 with 10:00 A.M. Mass; please
join us. OLPH teachers and students
will sing in the choir, bring up gifts, read, and help usher. Students are
encouraged to wear their OLPH School uniform to Mass. The theme this year is
"Raising the Standards". Information on our school will be available
in Holy Family Hall after Mass.
Activities scheduled during the week include:

January 28:

The hand
chimes class will play at the 12:00 Mass.
§
A Spiritual
Pep Rally will begin at 2:00 in the gym. Sister Mary Marta Abbott will
open with prayer along with choir songs, and cheers from the basketball
cheerleaders. A relay race
will be held using clothes collected from the gently used clothing drive which will be donated to the
Ladies of Charity Resale Shop.

January 29:

OLPH
Spirit Day--students and staff may wear an OLPH t-shirt (from any OLPH
event, such as Chatti Gras, Oktoberfest, sports clinics, gym, etc.) or OLPH
colors (blue, white, yellow) with jeans (or appropriate out of uniform bottom).
An ice cream treat will be
served to all students during their lunch time (provided by Home and School).

Wednesday,
January 30:
§
"Hats
on Day" in honor/memory of Amanda Swartout. All students and staff may wear a hat to
school. Donations will be accepted and given to Amanda's favorite charities,
including "Amanda's Toy Closet" at LeBonheur Children's
Hospital.
§
A spelling
bee will be held at 1:30 in the gym for grades 5th - 8th.
§
Story
time will take place between students and their buddies.

Day and Crazy Sock Day--
§
Crazy
sock day--students and staff may wear crazy socks with uniform bottoms.

Vocation
Day --Sister Marie Monique from NDHS will talk about vocations
to the 3rd-5th graders. The PreK through 2nd
graders will tour the church with
Fr. Jim and Fr. Mike. Fr. Pat from NDHS will speak to
the 8th graders about vocations.
§
The
NDHS Green and Gold Club is bringing t-shirts and pizza for the 5th
- 8th grade students.

Friday,
February 1:
§
All
school Mass at 8:15 A.M.
§
Students and staff may wear a shirt with their favorite sports team and out of
uniform bottom.
§
A
volleyball game will be played between the faculty and students at 2:20
in the gym.

Middle
School Dance--A "Winter Wonderland" semi-formal dance will be
held Saturday, January 26 from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. All OLPH 6th, 7th,
and 8th graders are invited to attend, as well as St. Jude students.
The dance will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Sylvan Avenue.
Admission is $10.00 per student which will include photos, refreshments, and
fun! Frozen drinks will cost an additional $1.00. If you any questions or
financial concerns, please call Jonette Dearing at 423-313-3546.

Knights
of Columbus Free Throw Contest--Knights of Columbus Council #8576 (St.
Jude Council) are inviting all boys and girls, ages 10-14, to participate in
the local level of competition for the 2013 K of C Free Throw Championship. It
will be held Sunday, January 27 at 1:30 P.M. in the St. Jude School gym.
Winners in each age division will advance to the Chattanooga District level
competition. Any questions, contact David Champion at 423-843-3803.

Evening
at Noodles--We have a wonderful offer from Megan Swartz Bozeman, a graduate
of OLPH School and Notre Dame High School. She is the owner of the new Noodles and Company in downtown
Chattanooga, and has offered to do a partnership evening event to help support
Chatti Gras during Catholic Schools Week. Join the Chattanooga Catholic Schools for Dinner Benefit at Noodles and Company; located at 4th and Market, on
Wednesday, January 30, from 4 to 8 P.M. 25 % of all sales will go to benefit
the Chattanooga Catholic Schools. Each
student was given a notecard/flier with this information.

Chick-fil-A
Spirit Night--Spirit Night for OLPH will be from 4 to 9 P.M. at the
Chick-fil-A located on Gunbarrel Road (in front of Target), and in Hamilton
Place Mall. OLPH School will receive a
percentage of the sales from fliers that OLPH families turn in. The teacher
with the most participation will receive a nugget tray for their classroom!

Gras--WE ARE COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS TO CHATTIGRAS!! If you have not yet
purchased your tickets, please swing by the office and pick them up, or go to www.chattigras.com to get them online.

Tickets
purchased online before February 4 will be mailed to you. Those purchased from
Mon., Feb. 4 up until the day of the
event will be available at the Will Call Table the evening of February 9.

volunteer to help with ChattiGras prior to or during the event, contact

. Many hands are needed. The Bidding for
Good portion of the ChattiGras auction began on January 14. Please spread the
word through email and Facebook. Family, friends, and alumni can be a part of

"auction" to see where our items will be and set up your account to
bid. Be sure to use the "Refer Friends" button to spread the word by
Facebook, Twitter, and email!! We want to get top dollar for all those
wonderful auction items you helped collect. Some items will be reserved for the
silent auction during the event.

Pork
roast sale/Men's softball--The Knights of Columbus 6099 is having their
Annual Pork Loin Sale on Sunday, February 3rd. The cost is $25 for a
fully seasoned and cooked/smoked pork roast. All proceeds go to the Right to
Life Cause. Also, any adult male parishioners who would like to play
competitive softball in a local Church League for the Knights of Columbus #6099
can contact Craig Bodnar at 423-314-7447. Practices will start the end of
February.

Ladies
Bible Study-- Are you looking to do something different for Lent? The OLPH
Ladies Bible Study for Lent begins Wednesday, February 20th at 10:00
A.M. in Holy Family Hall. This is a six
week study. Join us as we take hold of
the power in Jesus' cross and apply it to our lives. The Life-giving Power of the
Cross: Sharing in Christ's Victory; the cost is $8.00. Please contact

Basketball--The
basketball season at OLPH has begun! See calendar above for game schedule. OLPH
School has the following four basketball teams: 5G (5th grade
girls), 5B (5th grade boys), VG (varsity girls-grades 6, 7, 8), and
VB (varsity boys-grades 6, 7, 8). Go
Rams!!

Track
information--Track sign-ups will be held January 22 through February 6.
OLPH School will have a varsity team for boys and girls in grades 6th-8th
(coached by Miss Laura Goodhard), and a new elementary team for boys and girls
in grades 3rd-5th (coached by Mrs. Kari Ingle). There
will be a meeting after school on February 14 for parents and students
interested in joining either team. Questions about the varsity team can be

Irish
Club Wrestling--Three OLPH students, wrestling for the Irish Club, recently
earned medals in the AAU East Ridge Open Wrestling tournament. Curtis Dearing placed 1st (gold medal) in the 145
lb. division, Grant Speer placed 2nd (silver medal) in the 85
lb. division, and John Hillman
placed 3rd (bronze medal) in the 112 lb. division. Good job, guys!
